deferred to crowd-wisdom, and voted Scanlin over Bobby T, BS was a greater rookie contributor

add Larsson

I really think Vaisanen is getting underrated here. Scanlin and Travigno are fine for 24 year olds, and I wouldn't be shocked if one of them eventually ends up playing a couple seasons as a replacement level guy.

But Vaisanen is a 20 year old with some outstanding tools who played against men last year, as a teenager. He doesn't shy away from using his frame, and he isn't afraid to try beating guys with his speed either. If we have one guy who could leap up the rankings by Christmas, this is the kid.

Yeah Vaisanen is a really interesting prospect. I've always had him and Chmelar very close. I know Chmelar has some helium now after the WJC performance but Vaisanen was also good in that tournament, and as you said, held his own in a professional league as a teenager. He has really nice tools and if he can start to put it together he could rocket up the charts.

I say Vaisanen’s upside is Viktor Stalberg if he pans out. Similar style of game in my opinion. On Chemlar, I say Engvall if he pans out. Similar game and style of play.

Vaisanen, add Ollas.
Ditto.

Honestly don’t understand all Bobby T love vs other options still available. Yeah, we all love to root for a long-shot. Yeah, he hustles, brings energy and tenacity but the Rangers will have him now competing against higher pedigree prospects of the same ilk... On the other hand seems Henriksson is not even a voting option yet. Is their gap so big?

Trivigno played very well last year. He was an absolute spark plug and almost always made things happen when put in a position to do so. I noted last season that for the first time in a long time, I didn't really have a problem with the line composition. Trivigno was the lone example as the way they utilized him was inexplicable.

Henriksson, I feel like I've spoken about him so much over the years. If he makes it for me it's as a 13F who plays 8 minutes taking defensive zone starts and a PK shift or two.

Henriksson's tool set is pretty low end. And I remember him being touted as very smart and having excellent vision, but the year he played at TCT, his play looked incredibly 'junior' to me. So many low probability high risk plays, that may work often enough against weaker competition. But it just looked like his game needed a complete overhaul to have any chance at making the NHL.

I haven't seen much of him since, so it's possible he has made some big improvements to his game, or gotten stronger/faster, but I'm not optimistic.

So glad the Rangers select a future Greg McKegg in round 2 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I mean he could become more than what I'm describing, it just seems really unlikely to me. He has never produced offense anywhere other than Swedish juniors or when he was playing with Holtz and Raymond in short tournaments. And while he was always some degree of young for the SHL, he was basically a JAG while there.

He did a nice job playing a defensive role in the AHL, but you can sign guys who do that on AHL contracts.

Laba for me. CC plays shell defensive hockey, might suppress his numbers

Laba, Lamb and Mancini are my dark horses here. I like all three of them quite a bit for various reasons.

I specifically am intrigued by Mancini who took it upon himself to go play in Sweden in back to back years when he was also playing in the USHL. 6'4 and skates really well. And not just for a big guy. I don't think offense will ever be his calling card but effectively shutting guys down and moving the puck away from his own goal with simple plays is well within his wheelhouse.

Lamb I really like too but he is just underdeveloped physically. Skill-wise he should be higher on this list and I think with the departures from Minnesota this off-season, we will see his numbers jump. He had minimal playing time on a stacked team but you could tell the game wasn't too much for him as a Freshman in a depth role. That and he learned how to be a two-way guy this year which really helped his game. I'm expecting big things this year from Lamb. I think 25 points is not at all outside of the realm of possibility here.

Not that they were going to garner any votes, but you can also remove Ciccolini and Highes from the "To Be Added" list. CapFriendly confirmed what I suspected, which is that their rights expired yesterday, and we didn't sign them.

Another piece to the puzzle figuring out this labyrinth of NHL rights for NCAA players.

I'm going with "A team retains control for four full years of eligibility."

Ciccolini and Hughes played all four year of their initial eligibility.

Kjellberg has played three years and was eligible for a fourth but it was wiped out due to COVID, so that year doesn't count. This is his fourth year.

Even Nanne--medical exception his first season or it just didn't count because he never played; his transfer year that he sat out is the first year of eligibility; then three years of actual play brings us to four years.

I'm sure there are plenty of examples where this theory doesn't work, but I'm rolling with it.

agreed, makes sense, but wasn't sure if Eric C's 4 game season might have been deemed red-shirt/injury and allowed him another
