RW Nicklas Jensen won round 15. D Tarmo Reunanen is added to the poll.

RULES CHANGE:

Since HF no longer functions beyond the forum, no reason to have their old rules. We do, however, need the same rules for everyone or else the rankings mean nothing.

SKATER PROSPECT: A player 24 or younger with 50 or fewer NHL games.

GOALIE PROSPECT: A player 25 or younger with 25 or fewer NHL games.

EXCEPTION 1: If a player completed the required 50/25 games, but is still not regarded as an NHL regular because he's shuffling between the NHL and the AHL, he could still be a prospect as long as he's 24 or younger and if agreed upon by most people here.

EXCEPTION 2: A player who is no older than 25 years old at the time of the vote and is a borderline NHLer could still count if agreed upon by most people here.

Please vote on who to add to the next round of polling.

Kovacs, add Crawley

Kovacs should take this and that's end of second tier IMO

Jensen becomes another Klingberg. Signed in Europe with rights retained by NYR. Not much value gained for those two trades. Such is life though

Gettinger based on his noticeable progress and his long-term potential.

Kovacs should be the easy choice here, but last year was nothing short of a disaster for him. He has a lot to prove.

Second tier to me ended after either Gropp or Wall.

Gettinger sucks. He can get some Junior points just by dominating little kids physically, but it won't work in the pros. Not that his stats are good in the Juniors, they're still pretty terrible, and more terrible still because he gets them by being 40-70 pounds bigger than 17-year-old kids, an advantage that will be vastly reduced as soon as he hits the pros. Look for him to start in the ECHL a year from now.

The road for him is still a very long one, but there are very few players out there in the 6'6 range neeting 30 goals in any junior league.

You could argue his size is a big advantage, and you can also make a sound argument that his size is also a big challenge at this point.

He's gangly, a little awkward, raw and still trying to figure out what he has. Being a tall, teenage hockey player isn't inherently an advantage for all guys.

Did you ever play hockey against someone much smaller than you? Given any level of skill, you can just abuse them. All they can do is take a penalty to try to stop you. That's why big men are so coveted in the NHL. The problem stems from someone who are able to dominate Junior kids physically, but won't have enough size advantage to make up for the lack of skill in the AHL, much less the NHL. A big guy without much skill facing highly skilled average-sized guys looks like an orange cone on a highway.

Yes, 30 goals is nice, but if they came from bulldozing kids in the garbage areas rather than real skill, it won't translate well to the pros.

Gettinger. There's a difference between 6'3" and 6'6". At 6'6" and 210lbs (with room to add weight), he's big enough that that size could be an asset in the NHL as well, Byfuglien-style. Obviously he has obstacles to overcome, but he's still worth watching.

Add Lettieri. Again, there must be a reason he was able to command the rookie max as an UDFA, while guys like Pedrie and Leedahl were gettable for less...

Depends on the size.

I was a power forward, but I also wasn't 7 inches taller than my competition. In a game of speed and precision, that's not always an "advantage." Especially for teens like Gettinger who tend to be more "Stretched" than built out.

As for Gettinger, he isn't a power forward, nor do his points come from bulldozing the competition. He's more lanky than he is a physical speciman. If he plowing over people and using his size to simply swat them away, aka a Hugh Jessiman type, I'd be a little more concerned about that translating to the pro ranks. If anything, I would argue that his game would benefit tremendously if he were to start playing that regularly.

Gettinger is incredibly raw at this point and is still a long shot. But that's true for most of the other guys ranked in the third tier/mid-teens.
