Ronning is 3+ year older than most these kids he's up against and he only now started putting it together in the AHL, of which we still don't know if it was a fluke or not.
TY Ronning (RW) is probably gone soon - he did very well in Vancouver Giants, but something happened after that 2017-18 season.

If something bad happened after that, something good must’ve happened before last season because he was over a PPG in the AHL

I dont know to be honest, but just looking at the stats it dont make sense, because he is very talented consider his high draft ranking.

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic because he was drafted late lol but I’ve seen him play live a lot when he was in the Giants, and I think he is very good. He always looked like one of the very best players out there. I know most Ranger fans have never really seen him play and probably assume because of his size & stats, what kind of player he is; but he’s a lot like a Brendan Gallagher

voted Getting
add Kalle Väisänen, (a future Viktor Stalberg in my opinion)

makes a big hit on the forecheck at the 1:27 mark

we've been through so many smurf periods in the pipeline, most didn't pan out,
but Ronning could force his way to NHL career the way Marchessault has

Lamb should have been added a while ago. Biggest boom/bust prospect we have at this point. Youngest player in our system and a current 4th round pick and is the highest pick not added that was just taken in the draft.

Mentioned before that the analytics groups really liked that pick. USHL this upcoming season after putting in work in HS as a Junior. NCAA after that. He's going to be on the longer end before thinking he could be an NHL player, but he's the biggest upside player we have left at this point. It would not shock me if two years from now that he is one of the better prospects we have OR he falls off completely.

Been advocating Húska for ages. He's got what it takes to be a NHL backup. I'm just looking at who is most likely to make it to the NHL (which is also why I voted Gettinger as he has been in the NHL, still only 23)

Not sure what all the Edstrom hype is about. So far, he's Bruce Graham 2.0.1

I have been a big Huska fan since his UConn days, when I'd always push for him above Wall. Since he has turned pro, he just hasn't been good. He hasn't always been bad--like last season, he was a steadying presence for the post part--but again he really wasn't ever good. You never left a game thinking, "Man, Huska really came up big!" It's always, "Well, Huska didn't really let in any shitty goals, so that was pretty okay." And that's basically been him as a pro; consider that it's been since his sophomore year in college where he actually went through any periods of sustained success. The best thing Huska has going for him at this point, IMO, is that he's a goalie and even at 24 they still often put it together. He may yet do so, but I've been disappointed.

Edstrom is a huge kid who unexpectedly forced his way onto a good Rogle team at age 18 and played really well on the fourth line. He did the same last season and saw time playing higher in the lineup and had an outstanding playoffs for the runners-up where he had 3+3 in 5 games to help finish off Frolunda and then to help them go up 2-0 on Skelleftea. He has improved his all-around game and his team depends on him to do a lot. He actually looks more suited for the North American game than the SHL if you ask me. Anyway, he looks pretty tailor-made to step onto an NHL fourth line in the next couple seasons.

He was definitely more engaged in all areas of the ice last year than I've ever seen him, even when he played in Vancouver. Was much better being a protagonist instead of waiting for the play to come to him. Still, we're talking about a guy who will be 24 early in the year who has been a difference-maker for 18 games--literally a quarter of a regular season against watered-down AHL competition. It's hard to overlook how ineffective he was in his previous two professional seasons and only focus on last "season." Even if he does become an impact player in the AHL, we know that's still hardly a guarantee of NHL success. He may yet become a homegrown Blackwell, but I think the odds are still pretty firmly against that.

That said, this does seem like a reasonable range for him to come off the board.
Lamb and Vaisanen still aren't added!?

Add Vaisanen...
I'm intrigued by both, but they're both mid-round picks that I know basically nothing about. At least I've been able to see video of Lamb and read some first-hand accounts; Vaisanen (and Chmelar for that matter), there's really not much to go on.

Lot of people are hoping Edstrom becomes Brian Boyle 2.0.1

Yeah, I just really like Edstrom. He plays with an edge, and he plays fast--like he's not physically fast but he's smart, decisive, and moves around out there with a real intentionality. He doesn't ever just float. This is what separates him from Gettinger, to me. Timmy tends to get away from the things that make him dangerous--his size, strength, and reach, and sometimes plays smaller than he is. I don't see that with Edstrom (though I've obviously seen less of Edstrom).

His hands are so-so but he's not devoid of skill, and he does really know how to navigate his way around the net. I think if you plugged him into an NHL system where he was asked to just pound on people and be around the net all the time, he'd continue to play quire effectively. Strong as a f***ing ox. And though I don't recall him playing center recently, he can play both wings and the pivot.

Add Lamb.

I admittedly haven't been able to study him as much as I normally would, but given his age, production, skillset, and the track record of our US scouts (all their recent picks - Berard, Jones, Skinner, and Miller - have looked good in hindsight), I'm intrigued enough by his upside to think he's worth the gamble at this point.

For whatever it's worth, I think there is also a lot of risk with guys who, at 23 and 24 don't have that much runway left to improve, and haven't been that impressive in a professional league outside of one very short, very unusual season. Huska still hasn't cleared a .900 save percentage in the AHL and he and Ronning both spent time in the ECHL last year. I think I've seen somewhere that the odds of a player who has been in the ECHL that late in that career making it to the NHL are exceptionally low.

Yeah, all I've seen on Vaisanen is that Youtube shift-by-shift, and another Youtube video of a game in U20, which I never watched.

But he's 6'4", a very good skater, loves to throw his weight around, has a heavy and quick release, and is way younger than the guys that are getting voted in ahead of him.

In scouting reports, I think the knocks have been mostly about puck skills. If I remember right, Black Book's big knock was his shot accuracy.

I haven't watched that shift-by-shift in a while, but when I did, I felt he was the best player on the ice in about half his shifts. I believe there are three times when he throws big enough hits to knock the opponent down (one crushing one early on), and at one point in the second half, he beats two guys on the half-wall, skates the puck toward the point and saucers a backhand cross-ice pass to a guy; or something thereabouts. He also tried the Ovechkin between the legs deke coming down the wing, at one point, and was easily stopped by the defender.

From scouting reports, it sounded like upside was the biggest reason he wasn't ranked higher, and from watching that video, that looks pretty fair; but I still think he should be ahead of a bunch of these older guys that will be lucky to sniff NHL ice for a dozen games in their career.

Give me the 6'4" 18-year old who crushes guys while also putting up the 4th most points on his U-20 team. The top 3 guys being 20, 20, and 21 right now.

Intonen and Teissala should be full-time Liiga players by now. Both undrafted, but they are definitely ready to go straight to Liiga instead of Mestis.

With Väisänen, I am not sure. It all depends on what players they are still adding, but with Pajuniemi leaving there is a potential spot on the right side for him, maybe not top-6 but more a depth role.

Väisänen and Edström have some things in common, for sure. I hope Kalle can surprise us as much as Adam did.

How do you think he would fit into the Mestis lineup if he goes there?

Even though the upside is the question mark, I think I'd still prefer him to be getting special teams usage, and top6 TOI in an inferior league at this point.
