Gardner McKay
RIP, Jimmy.
Better him on the fourth line than Glass I guess.
Marek Malik would be a better option than Tanner Glass.

I don't get the Glass hate I keep reading about...My personal take...he was signed on UFA-Day...peeps were disappointed that it wasn't a jaw dropping name while refreshing feeds, hungry for updates...some crap talk got started, snowballed...and there you have it.
Terms? ok...maybe you don't like the $$ or length...I hear ya...but this a guy that's I grinder...I don't get it. I don't think 90% of the smack talkers have any clue what his guy brings...
Neither do I...but I'm not bashing him.....yet.
Advanced statistics seem to indicate that he's the least effective player in the league.
The case against Glass:
- He is consistently, over three different teams with many sets of linemates, at the bottom of the league in terms of puck possession.
The case for Glass:
- He hasn't even played a game for the Rangers yet.

2010-11 with Vancouver: 531 out of 537 in CF%least effective....how? He's on a new team now...different players surrounding him...does that get computed?
2010-11 with Vancouver: 531 out of 537 in CF%
2011-12 with Winnipeg: 523 out of 531
2013-14 with Pittsburgh: 544 out of 546
Probably just needs a change of scenery though.
It isn't for anyone.Yeah, pretty much. You might want to also acknowledge that, for some of us, puck possession isn't the be-all/end-all of player effectiveness.
It isn't for anyone.
If you don't like puck possession numbers: since he came into the league, Glass' teams have scored 40.2% of the goals when he is on the ice at 5-on-5. Five players out of 525 are lower than that.

I have yet to encounter someone who does, but next time you do, be sure to point him out to me!Bull. It's like 3 posts up from yours where someone whose opinion I respect greatly says that his adv stats "indicate he's the least effective player in the league." May or may not have been serious, but plenty of people all-in on the stats definitely believe that, even if you yourself don't.
Well either:Anyway, what could those numbers possibly matter in the context of him playing on this team with Moore and whoever plays the other wing? I mean, Craig Adams had worse numbers in that category than Glass did last year. One year, Ryan Kesler had worse numbers. So what?
Glass' top linemates' CF% the season before and after playing with him:
I think it's him.

Well either:
1.) Glass is the unluckiest player in the league, and he's dragged down to the bottom of the league by his linemates (a different set) year after year; OR
2.) There's something about him that has a negative effect on the team when he's on the ice that causes the results we're seeing. How would that not be relevant here?

Good post. These players listed aren't bad players. The Glass contract was unnecessarily stupid, but at least for this year, he and Lombardi can be a good 4th line platoon depending on the opponent.I mean, look at the players in the bottom 20 of leaguewide forwards in CF% over that span of time. Todd Marchant? Jay McClement? Brandon Sutter? Greg Campbell? Kyle Brodziak? These aren't bad players. They aren't players who have a negative effect on their teams. I wasn't picking out just a few. I count 4 or 5 players in that list who I would actually consider bad hockey players. Mostly, they are players who are asked to fill specific roles having to do with the type of play that just won't garner you good possession stats.
Over the last 3 years, he's 197th of 298 in GA20 in 4-on-5 situations. Over the last two, he's 130th of 248 in GA20. Last year, he was 129th of 185. So, basically he's an adequate, middle of the road PKer. I would've liked a better PKer for that particular contract, but at least he's capable.
So we'll see what he brings. It'll be an interesting camp and early part of the year, one way or the other.
Zil.

Of course I was upset about the term/cap hit, but that was before everything shook out and we managed to assemble a good roster regardless... still, you've gotta think Lee Stempniak loses some sleep on payday, with Glass in the bunk above him.
At the end of the day, dude's making $4.5 in three years tops How much will you make by analyzing CORSI charts for the same time?
