People roll their eyes at the country club narrative about this team but in reality there has never been a truer explanation for a franchise’s failure over time. Numerous cores, different players, different coaches, different circumstances. One constant: the organization treats them better than any other in the league. The players inevitably get comfortable in their station in life and lose the fight and desire necessary to become champions. It’s literally as simple as that.

It’s not fans being crazy. It’s not some conspiracy. It’s real. Players get paid and complacent and complacent and at this level, that’s all it takes for the difference between contender and bad. The whole group is fat and happy and paid. Went on a deep run last year. They’re entitled in every way.

Tomorrow is my birthday and my wife surprised me with really, really good tickets to a game in December (like 500 a piece, 6 rows up behind the net we shoot on twice). I’m so disgusted with this team i wanted to say cancel them get your money back. Im extremely no confident in being able to have a good time.

it's the middle of November, if you want them to play like it's Game 7 every game then they aren't going to have anything left in May and June. Calgary the other night played like it was Game 7 and we still almost beat them. last night was a pathetic performance, no question. but call me crazy, it's not down to effort. this roster is straight up not good enough. on top of that, the coaching staff doesn't utilize the players it has correctly. on top of that, certain players have just regressed majorly (Mika, Lindgren, Trouba) and there's nothing they can do about it. yeah some of them got paid, but these are the same players that got to the ECF twice in 3 years with two incredible series comebacks along the way. i think they still have the fight in them; they just aren't good enough. the expectations for this team are way too high.

reasons NYR is bad defensively

zone exits
entry denials
gap control
ability to skate up the ice through the NZ with the puck
ability to make a first pass in the NZ

reasons the team will say they're bad defensively

lack of grit
lack of will to win battles
lack of size

Folks are overreacting again. There is no doubt they are in a funk but this team is too skilled for it to last. Plenty of time to fix things.

Every team is skilled to some degree. Relying on just skill will not get far in the league now.

It is what it is. They aren't gonna miss the playoffs but the core needed to be changed if they want to win the cup

Drury has no balls. Brought back the same team so the problems everyone has mentioned were not fixed and can't be without a major move

I still think our forwards fly up the ice leaving the D hang out to dry. Then we get stuck in our own zone.

Posted this in the Miller thread. It happens so much it's maddening to see. Hell, it happened to us last night. When this play started, Bouchard was on the bench and Panarin and Laf were in the neutral zone and were still f***ing there when he came off the bench and scored.

None of the systems or plans the coaching staff has drawn up are working. If they pressure, they get turnstiled. So they fall back and concede the NZ, but opponents still gain the zone with speed anyway. Then they get overly eager in the ozone and it goes the other way just the same. No resistance in the NZ and no back pressure most of the time. No one picks up the trailer. Back door is left open all the time.

Does anybody know Vali uses to determine this? It always seems off, especially our offense and high danger chances.

Yep I started saying our forwards sucked at D back in the devils series a few years ago.

Our defenseman have their flaws, but many of our forwards choose not to play responsible hockey, and that makes our D look even worse. Panarin and Laf cherry-pick the entire game. Kreider, Zibanejad, Smith, and even Laf turn it over in bad spots. Panarin does that too, but he makes up for it with high risk plays that ultimately lead to NYR scoring. Most of these guys fly the zone too early too.

Yes people are overreacting if you’re fine with making the playoffs then bowing out early.

Absolutely not if you care about winning cups. Vally said the last 6 teams to win the cup were top-5 in rush chances against per game. The Rangers are 31st!! They were 22nd last year and 15th the year before. We have no chance of winning with this core. I care about cups. One cup in my father’s effing lifetime is a joke.
