I like Buch but he is what he is. I think some fans still have unreal expectations of him. I think he will give you some goals here and there but he isn’t gonna big a bigtime contributor and that’s fine. He had gotten better at other parts of the game.

He’s a top 6 player who still has 1st line upside to me. Problem is we’ve been there before. He struggles, then it clicks. Then back to struggling. Then back to clicking. It always feels like he’s gonna break out any minute with the chances he creates, but it never happens. He’s just too inconsistent, especially when it comes to finishing.
And yes he did get better with his strength, physical play, compete level (which is still sometimes inconsistent), and defense. He still has really good hands and playmaking ability, but his shot seems to have gotten worse. If he slightly improves his skating, IQ, or composure, he’s a 1st liner imo. I don’t know if it will happen, but I’m a believer

Buch is a middle six forward who dangles like a first liner hence the unrealistic expectations.

But that’s what gives (or gave) him first line upside. I don’t think he’s a first liner right now or ever really was, and I’m one of his biggest fans, but I think he can get to low-end 1st liner level eventually
