It was a cheap crosscheck, you want me to go on and on and on about how it was the dirtiest thing I ever saw? It wasn't.

That isn't at all what I said. It also was not the dirtiest thing I have ever seen. That doesn't change the fact that it was an extremely dangerous play that could have resulted in a life changing injury for Miller. Neck & Spinal injuries are brutal. I know better than anyone. It isn't something you ever fully recover from. Big Buff is one of the heaviest and strongest players in the league. Keep that in mind.

You know I made fun of the Canadians fans for constantly whining about the Kreider thing when their own player caused it.

I will be damned if I am going to whine over a cheap crosscheck. Crap like that happens, Miller's ok. I am sure going forward the fantastic deterrent that Tanner Glass is, will make sure that nothing like that will happen again.

Besides they basically lost the game because of him, that's enough punishment for me.

Edit: Before anyone gets on me, the hits (Kreider/Buff) weren't analogous, I just don't want to whine/dwell on it.

Oh so because he didn't get hurt it's not something to be upset about? That was a vicious hit that could have broken his neck. If something like that is allowed to continue some player is going to get seriously injured or worse. You can't compare it to the Kreider incident. The guy was flying in on a breakaway and was tripped. JT Miler was on the ice in a defenseless position and 265lbs came down on his neck. This isn't about being a homer. This is about getting these clearly dangerous plays out of the game.

I didn't want to dwell on it because I am going to go against the rules (which you know I do occasionally) laid out in the first post but what the hell it's in the context of a conversation....

Buff is a big fat slob, I won't argue, he could have just as easily ended Miller's career if he simply fell on him, let alone crosscheck him. I think because he is so massive it made the hit worse.

I didn't make any comments about how dangerous it was, I don't think I opined on that. Miller wasn't hurt so I am moving on. If he was hurt, then yeah it changes the entire context of my argument but he wasn't.

I am of the opinion the Rangers took advantage of the idiot and won the game. Whatever supplemental penalty the league decides on, I am fine with, he's the one that had to go back into that locker room and look like a jerk. If you have been in that situation you know what I mean.

I am not going to state my position again because you clearly didn't read what I wrote.

Both are unprovoked, vicious attacks from behind with clear intent to injure. What exactly is different? The artistic swing of the stick?

Buff attacked Miller with force, the only reason to do that would be to cause him bodily harm for whatever reason he saw fit. Thats assault

I am going to refer to Potter Stewart's famous quote on pornography and use it for your extremely loose definition of assault:

"I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description ["hard-core pornography"], and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it, and the motion picture involved in this case is not that."

Rather than argue semantics and define assault, I am going to apply that quote to the crosscheck. I know assault when I see it, and that wasn't assault.

It's a 5 minute penalty, a game and possibly a match.

How could you possibly show they do since everyone around here seems to think the standings are all that matters when it comes to how good a team is?


1. Because 76 games matter more than 10.

2. Because even as we got cold in the last 10 games, we still won 5 games instead of most team's cold streaks when they just collapse. That we are over .600 during the cold streak is a sign how good we are.

3. Our 4-4 run in the last 8 coincided with our second leading scorer being gone for all 8 games, as well as no Klein and Lundqvist just trying to get his rhythm back.

According to google Byfuglien has some Norwegian blood, where his name comes from. Thats kinda funny, I bet Zucc doesn't like his "fellow countryman" very much after this.

I dont know why no one else seems to notice this but Zucc was doing the old hold the stick under the armpit thing here. That combined with Buff being a dingus resulted in what you saw. He's a dope and his cc on Miller could very likely play a major part in costing his team their playoff aspirations.

A cheap crosscheck? Someone with Buff's size and strength could have easily SERIOUSLY injured Miller. Just because Miller wasn't injured it doesn't take away from the severity of the situation. Would you be saying the same thing if Miller was hurt and out for the remainder of the season and playoffs? No. I guarantee you would be singing a different tune.
Absolutely! Any punishment Buff gets will be to protect the next player that could be victimized by a cheap shot like it. Possibly make another player think twice about committing something like that. Thank goodness Miller wasn't hurt.

While I understand your sentiment regarding the outburst from Rangers fans, and those with no allegiance whatsoever to the Rangers, and that it not be overblown, it is not the same as the Kreider situation. It's the day after. We aren't almost 1 year down the road with pro-Canadiens, so-called professional radio people still bringing it up. There was no penalty required for what was a hockey play where Price was injured.
Right now, there has been zilch, nada nothing applied to Byfuglien. People are rather concerned that something is done. The winning PP goal that resulted from Byfuglien's penalty was a great story, but does not change my perspective on the crosscheck to JT's neck.

What Deveaux did was definitely an assault, and the police is also involved. Don't think that will happen with the Bufflin/Miller incident..

Asking the NHL to police their own player's actions is not asking too much, it is expected and should occur.
If he is having an in-person meeting, that is encouraging. Byfuglien plays on the edge an awful lot, as Jets fans themselves will attest. He crossed well over that line last night.

I'm certainly glad that our "sky is falling" moment is a 4-4 stretch basically without 3 of our most important players. Last years 3-5-1 slide after the Olympic break when we were still trying to clinch a playoff spot with ZERO injuries scared me a lot more than this one does. Even the win that got us out of it (8-4 vs. Ottawa) was an abomination of a game to watch. That team got to the Final. This team is better.

So if a drunk driver hits you on the way home but you are not injured, does that make it ok? Should you just move on?

I know that point is on the complete extreme end of the spectrum but frankly I have to get back to work and its all I could come up with. Doing nothing about an action just because there was no injury only encourages that type of action to happen more often which, will ultimately result in more injuries.

I don't disagree. Calls for him to be arrested are a bit ridiculous. Asking for him to be punished by the NHL is not.

I think this is belaboring the point, but I didn't define anything. I gave an example of assault and said I know it when I see it, in lieu of a definition. Your definition would have half the NHL in handcuffs by season's end.

It's not a big deal everyone's got a different opinion, we can agree to disagree.

True enough, it was very dangerous indeed. We all know that a broken neck can be fatal, or cause total paralysis.

But I've never seen the police getting involved after a bad and dirty hit or fight in the NHL.
