Meh, prefer another Tampa vs Rangers game to be honest.

From the looks of the weather, might not happen, Long Island is suppose to get slammed by snow, stay safe out there!

One game between the Islanders (who only just became relevant again) and the Rangers (who aren't even the clear leaders in the east), mid-season, is hardly the biggest game of the season. Maybe it's a huge game to their respective fanbases, but to most of us, it's nothing major.

Wasn't the last time they played the "biggest game ever"? How about the next time they play in February?

Expecting the worst here. Jaroslav Halak turns into Dominik ****ing Hasek whenever the Rangers play the Islanders. It pisses me off.

Rangers are gonna probably outshoot the Islanders 35-20 but lose 3-0 anyway.

Sure, it's only a regular season game, but renewing the main rivalry in the country's biggest market can only help the league.

Oilers vs. Sabres on Thursday is the biggest game of the year

See, even this game could have more important ramifications than the Isles/Rangers game, though given the lottery process and the unpredictability of how that will go it's not really a big game.

As a Ranger fan, this is not that big of a game. A good game but please, we are still in January for goodness sake.

I think this is another case of Islander fans tooting their own horns again....best forward, best offense, best depth, unreal goalie, best young players in the league, loudest arena...

I have also never seen the "AIAEC" acronym used as often then by Isle fans this year. Every thread has some bombastic statement followed by "AIAEC..."

I was looking forward to them getting good again but I am growing weary of the antagonism already...

What have you been reading? Isles had a few threads to begin the year that were premature but it's been all business lately. I read every thread involved with the Isles and don't see 'AINEC' tossed around at all.

Why are they playing the game outside of New York State?

Also, no. The biggest game of the season is not being played between the Rangers and the Islanders in January.

True, it is coincidentally the same guy who made the last NYR vs NYI "hype thread" before the Islanders got the shutout.

IMO they are the two best teams in the entire Eastern Conference, at least right now. They're major state rivals. It's being played in the loudest and most rabid arena in the NHL. It's going to be extremely intense. I can't think of another matchup this season that had all of these ingredients.

How can this be the biggest game of the season when you told me last week the Pens-Isles rivalry was the greatest in hockey. How can this be the biggest game and not include the biggest rivalry in hockey? :dunno:

It sort of reminds me when I watched wrestling as a kid, Mean Gene Okerlund would claim the upcoming wrestling event will be the greatest event in the history of wrestling. Maybe it's something to do with the Okerlund family since his son Todd played for the Islanders farm team

Is this a "I think New York is the centre of the universe thing and therefore everything happening in New York is the most important thing ever" thing, or just a team homerism thing?

It can be two things.

In actuality, it's a game which might, conceivably, possibly influence who gets home ice in a second round match-up. Less likely it will affect home ice in a first round match-up. And least likely it will affect home ice in a conference final match-up.

In reality, it likely means little to nothing in the grand scheme of things, except to fans of the teams playing.

Did you miss the thread from 3 days ago where I was told that Okposo is just as good as Kopitar?

In that thread I had two posts stating the Isles have the league's best offense AINEC as well league's best forward depth with a AINEC...

I too am happy for you guys. It has been a long, long time for you to have something to root for.

But don't start telling me it has been "all business."

Heck, this thread was written by an islander fan saying the next game against the Rangers is the biggest game of the year. No one rooting for the Rangers thinks that. And we certainly don't think the hockey world revolves around this town.

You have the majority of hockey fans feeling good for you but that will change if the talk isn't calmed down.

Heck- I really can't believe how I have to read that the Nassau Col. is the loudest, most insane place to see a game. It has been nearly empty with people wearing paper bags on their heads for years.

It was also not 3 months ago when every Islander fan wanted Snow and Coach Jack gone. Now they are be rated as the best in the business.

Really, it is not easy to swallow it all.
