Confirmed with Link: Rangers hire Mike Sullivan to

You can find negative stuff to say pretty much about anyone if you’re so predisposed (and this board is surely predisposed)

I don't really even see too many people throwing Sullivan under the bus. Just apathy because the roster sucks.
99% of NHL coaches are AI generated copies of each other anyway.

My beef with this move is it being like the 3rd major move since December that tells me this team is directionless.

Exactly.

Since December they've gotten a first line center and a veteran coach. They're beefing up a team that fundamentally isn't good enough.

Does Sullivan make this worse? Probably not but it indicates that Drury is still swinging at it. This team is literally just wasting its time.

Today's fun fact; in the past 8 seasons, Cuylle has been involved in 2 less playoff wins than Sullivan...

That’s strictly an opinion however. You must think he need to do a complete overhaul. I dont. Just get rid of the garbage and keep the workers.
Right, you want to just jettison all of our production and ride down Broadway with the Cup on the back of JT Miller and the Wolfpack.

You're entitled to think so.

As expected 11 pages of mostly hand wriggling just because it’s something to do.

Sally is a good coach. He came to Pens when they were an underperforming team full of vets in their prime and he was able to get the most out of all of them. Give me names of players who performed better once they left his Pens? He also mixed youngsters with his starts (when they deserved it). Do the Rangers have the horses to win it all? Debatable but it’s a good bet based on his history that Sally will get the most out of his players (past performance doesn’t guarantee future results).
Jazz hands?

That’s completely wrong as well, but if that’s what you think the alternative is instead of a complete overhaul than i dont what to tell you. Might as well take next season off.

Also, even if you're huffing the copium that all this team needs to do to contend is get rid of two top six forwards because you don't like the vibes, it's borderline unrealistic that Drury 1) can do that or 2) wants to.

He's doubling down. He's doing it right in front of you. He wants to win the Cup 13 months from now. He's not shipping out multiple top six players.

Getting rid of the garbage to you includes Mika, Kreider, and Panarin. Fine, fair enough. How do you plan on getting them to waive their NMC, how do you replace them, and what are you going to do about the terrible defense?

They said the same about Trouba and Goodrow. There is always a way to get players to waive.

If you want to rebuild, that's fine.

If you want to twist this thing into somehow the best version of itself to try and win one more year...I guess. They're probably not rebuilding, so I'm interested to see what the suggestions are at least.

Don't tell me you're getting rid of Panarin, Mika, and Kreider (and Fox with some of you!), and contending with what's left. You're showing your ass.

I don't think doing what he really needs to do is in the realm of possibility.
You think this season is a baseline for everyone who underperformed. I don’t. All the deadweight outside of Kreider is gone. Now we will see if Sallivan is able to get the rest of them to perform as a team.

You got it.

I think 23-24 is the absolute peak overperformance of this roster and Florida still squeezed them until their eyes popped out.

You're not beating 23-24 with any iteration of this group and they were still very far away.

To be honest, the Igor extension was the death knell for me. It was when I realized that Drury has no direction and doesn’t see the team for what it is.

I said it in the beginning of the season and I’ll say it again, this team is closer to needing a rebuild than it is to contending.

I’m more than happy to be wrong about all of this, but I just don’t see it.

I don't think the Igor extension is a Drury problem. I think it is a general league problem since I think pretty much all GMs would have done the same.

You're not wrong and the problem is that they care about goaltending.

The entire last 20 years of this organization would be different if they didn't keep telling themselves "any year now we're gonna win with goaltending!" even though nobody ever does.

Differey sport but we saw what happened to Joe Schoen who actually had some balls with Saquon Barkley.

The thing is, I am not at all convinced Drury is aligned to this. If he honestly believed they just needed to trade a few problem children, sign Sam Bennett, and block a million shots in front of their $11.5M goalie, it would not surprise me in the least.

Sign Sam Bennett for also $11.5m.
