Confirmed with Link: Rangers hire Mike Sullivan to

My goodness the way certain Rangers bloggers on Twitter are talking about Sullivan like he is on par with Cooper lol. Sullivan is an upgrade over Laviolette, but I’m not convinced he’s gonna dramatically change things either. At best, the Rangers will be what they were under Torts, good team that battles hard, but don’t have the talent or depth to win overall.
Too bad torts is not joining. Would at least make the defense bearable.

We all knew this was going to happen. Sullivan was the guy Drury wanted from the beginning, even as he was hiring Laviolette and Gallant. If Pittsburgh had fired Sullivan mid-season, I would not have been surprised if Drury had fired Lavi immediately to hire Sullivan, similar to what St. Louis did when Jim Montgomery became available. It was always Sullivan's job if he wanted it with Drury running the show. Personally, I'm not willing to praise or trash this move out of hand. Let's wait and see how the team reacts next year and beyond. Recent history leads us to expect early buy-in and success next year followed by a tune-out and failure in the following year.

I will say that I think Sullivan's reputation as a vet-lover is a bit overblown. If you look at his entire tenure with Pittsburgh, you can see a lot of young players who were playing significant roles: Guentzel, Rust, Murray, Jarry, Maata, Dumolin, Sheary, Petterson, Blueger. That hasn't happened as much recently because their prospects have been trash and they have traded away far too many picks. If you look at their last 12 drafts going back to 2013, you will see 0 top 10 picks, 1 top 15 pick, and only 4 total first round picks. They don't have young players worth playing.

It's from yesterday, was discussed extensively in the coaching search thread.

I don't really want Sullivan but could deal with him. Torts is not a good fit as an AC which makes you wonder if he'd be coming in some front office role, which is also a weird fit (if the reports about him are true).

Color commentary would be a really good spot for him or as part of the group who does intermissions

It's vibes.

What great thing did he do here? Lol I'm still not sure what his job was here. Anyone know?
Didn't Muse run the PK? Third overall in '23-'24 and 11th this season. That's clearly regression, but I think PK has been a strength for NYR. And I believe how they've killed under Muse aligns with what Sullivan wants to accomplish defensively.
