Confirmed with Link: Rangers hire Mike Sullivan to

What are they learning from an interview they don't already know? They've already seen most of these guys coach hundreds of games. They've known them all for years. The interview is mostly just a formality.

What do you mean? Why have interviews at all then?

2. How would we know? We've been ride or die with vets who aren't geared to play in tight games for years now. Laf-Chytil-Kakko was our best 5v5 line in the playoffs THREE years ago, but we're still here now dealing with a lockerroom that has no leadership or identity.

I'm happy to play younger guys especially if they are younger, faster and tougher but I do not really get your point. Laf and Kakko have played a lot of games over the years. Laf has been on our top line or 2nd line for 2 years. Both guys left us somewhat disappointed in their play.

I mean...don't you want to know what happened in Pittsburgh? They haven't made it past the first round since 2016-17. They've been shitty the last few years. I would imagine that even if you don't believe in interviews that that is something you'd like to hear Sullivan explain.

It's kind of like an acting audition. You wouldn't audition DiCaprio or Pitt because you know what you're gonna get, but if they were in flop after flop after flop, you'd at least want to "inspect the goods", so to speak

Its not really a mystery what happened in Pittsburgh though. They clung to an aging roster longer than they shouldve with league worst goaltending. Theyve had 3 GMs during Sullivan's tenure and none of them ever addressed the problems.

So it wasn't Sullivan's fault at all? He was blameless?

This could be the most Rangers move ever. Fire a coach who missed the playoffs once so you can make a guy who's missed them three times the highest paid coach in the game.

They are not really making him the highest paid coach in the league considering he already was the highest paid coach in the league.

At this point, I honestly have no opinion. I have no idea if Sullivan will be good or if some other coach would have been better (or worse).

If he succeeds, great. If he sucks, both he and Drury will be fired, and then we can start over with two more guys who probably won't be substantially different.

This pretty much is how I see it.

Drury pretty much hired him the day he was fired by the Pens. He had some good years but it always helps when you have the best horses like a prime Crosby/Malkin. It's not to say I think he's a bad coach but the Pens Stanley Cups were going to happen with him or with somebody else. That the Pens start to fade when these guys move out of their primes and after they've eviscerated their player and prospect depth is part of the ongoing NHL cycle happening for decades. At the end of the day you're not going to win unless you have some great players and enough supporting depth around them.

I have the opposite opinion. Bylsma and Johnston couldnt get them past the Rangers and others for years. Lots of early exits. Sullivan came in and they won immediately. The system worked for the teams they had around Crosby. Speedy forecheck. Rangers need to get faster for him to succeed here but those Cups were hardly a given. Revisionist history on where the Pens were as a franchise back then.

One thing I noticed when we played Pitt was even though they were bad in some positions they still seemed to run a pretty good breakout with short passes to guys in stride. I know people talk about them lobbing the puck up but that was not the norm in the games I saw.

Lets see what Drury's got up his sleeve. The purge isnt over.
Even tho you dismissed my (semi-serious) efforts to procure insight from the Pens HFB, one of the replies did say that Sully needs forechecking in all lines. Take it or leave it...
We don't simply need purges we desperately need some recruiting too... Unless we run with Jonny Bro at 3C.

Scrap all that, here we gooooooooooo Confirmed with Link: - Rangers extend Parssinen

They need another center desperately, Ive said that. The prospects the Rangers have coming up fit Sullivan's system much better than the veterans.
