Rangers have lost 15 out of their last 19 games. What would you do if you were Dolan (the owner of the team) or Drury (the GM)?

What a load of BS. So every UFA who doesn’t re-sign is “screwing over” their team?

Hopefully you’re not including Fox in that ridiculous statement since the Rangers are literally the only team he’s ever played for.
He is *THE* charter member of that bullshit. I sure wonder how the guy born in Jericho ended up playing for the only team he would sign for in the Rangers and not the Flames and Hurricanes who had him first

He was a year away from FA as an NCAA junior. If he had played his senior year is he still supposed to sign with the team that drafted him, out of some misguided sense of obligation? No?

So then what’s wrong with him informing a team that he intends to sign elsewhere when he reaches FA?

I swear some people here wish they lived in the Soviet Union, so they could watch a league where players had no say in where they lived or who they played for

Playing for the team that drafts you instead of purposely running out the clock and using it as leverage to play for your favorite team. What a Soviet concept. McDavid should have done that so he could be a Leaf

Because in no sense could Carolina or Calgary be considered his “former team”, since he never signed a contract with them. They each got a fair return for his signing rights, no reason to feel bad for them.

Screwing over your team would be signing a contract and then refusing to honor it. He literally never did that.
Easy to say for the fan of the team that players clamor to play for. There is no question what Fox did is allowed under the CBA but also no question he forced his way to the Rangers, and only the Rangers. Calgary got boned.

No clue why “playing for the team that drafted you” is such a sacred cow for some people. Who gives AF. He doesn’t owe anyone a damn thing other than the team he signs a contract with.

Each team knows the risk that comes with drafting guys from the NCAA. If they weren’t OK with a player availing himself of his free agency rights at the end of his NCAA career they wouldn’t draft him.

I’m not a Rangers fan.

Is it possible that some people reach a conclusion based on critical thinking skills, and not solely on what benefits or threatens their interests as a fan?

The sacred cow is when someone gives you the opportunity of a lifetime and not someone else. You. Athletes are rarely in control of their destiny at 18 and it's disrespectful no matter who you are to pull that shit whether you want to play for that team or not. Whatever dude. It's not making me scratch my head why someone like that can't figure out the formula to winning a championship and why his captain who leveraged his way to NY too spent his whole Ranger career playing like shit and had to get traded

I stand corrected. Thought you were defending the Rags good fortune to be a preferred market

Regardless, it is a huge risk for teams nowadays that players - seemingly at an increasing rate - want to determine their destination. And that is bad for the overall health of the league, IMO. The compensation for drafting a player and not being able to sign him is not adequate. Playing for the team that drafted you should be a "sacred cow".

How about removing the salary cap or getting rid of the draft lottery? That would benefit only a few teams in the league as well.

Not surprised at all that they lost badly to Tampa, but how did the Rangers outshoot the Lightning so badly?

The Rangers don't seem to win the shots battle overwhelmingly very often. Is their play an indicator of better effort or did the Bolts relax and let up or something?

I'm struggling to understand why New York would make a desperate move to get rid of Trouba and torpedo the locker room, and then go over 3 weeks without doing anything with his cap space while the team free falls.

The cap space was needed for next season. They didn't need to move Trouba now and if Miller got hurt a couple of weeks earlier, that move probably doesn't even happen. There was clearly stuff going on behind closed doors. Maybe Drury thinking he can eliminate both distractions. Trade Trouba and then guarantee the money is there to sign Shesterkin. It didn't work out.

Knowing Dolan he's thinking "I love the Knicks you see the Knicks.... Knicks Knicks Knicks"

Dolan cares about the Rangers if A) The Knicks are bad and not going to be good for a bit cause hockey feels like you can try and turn around a team quicker in free agency in the NHL then NBA B) if the Rangers are good and he doesn't have to do anything about it.

Knicks have more cache in the area cause NBA is a bigger league then the NHL

Does James Dolan regularly show up at Rangers games? I'm not a frequent basketball viewer, but I know enough(in particular from photos in the New York Post) that he sits on the baseline at Knicks games. Since 1946(the year the Knicks were born), the Knicks and Rangers have combined for three titles, amazing given the supposed cache and power of playing in Manhattan.

This literally isn't true -- there are many, many teams who would've loved to sign Adam Fox. So no, they didn't give him an "opportunity of a lifetime," because he no doubt had 30 other teams who would've jumped at the chance to sign him.

Athletes are rarely in control of their destiny at 18 and it's disrespectful no matter who you are to pull that shit whether you want to play for that team or not.
Lol "muh disrespect"

pretty much says it all

Whatever dude. It's not making me scratch my head why someone like that can't figure out the formula to winning a championship and why his captain who leveraged his way to NY too spent his whole Ranger career playing like shit and had to get traded
But Gretzky leveraged his way out of being stuck on a bottom feeder that drafted 1st overall. As did Jagr, and Elway, and Manning. They all won championships though?

So maybe you're just choosing to interpret a TEAM failure as the result of some imagined moral shortcoming?

Bolts D were content on keeping the Rangers shooting from the outside; very few of the shots were in the the high danger areas. In contrast the majority of the Bolts scoring chances were in the high danger area.

Always fun in the playoffs to watch the perimeter-shooting teams dry up so quickly. You'd think they would learn, but rinse wash repeat.

This is entirely on Drury. The Goodrow / Trouba soap operas, the email trade rumour leaks, etc.
The vets on the team feel disrespected which completely messes with team unity.
Don't get me wrong, these guys are paid millions to play a game , and should be showing up and playing with purpose and pride each night, but if they're feeling f***ed with, lied to and there's a lack of cohesion in the GM's message, it will sabotage team building.
It looks like Dolan is going to have to make a decision between Drury and some of the vets on the team.
If it's the vets, other GMs see it a mile away and will offer shit returns imo - then you include some of these longterm deals, NTC and the age of guys like Kreider and it's a very, very difficult situation.
Also how many GM's get flushed during the year?
I can only think of Bergevin recently
