Friedman: Rangers have given Zac Jones permission to seek a trade

Not bad either... and better than some others that are playing over him.

Again, depends on the makeup of your d-corps. Fox isn't physical. Miller isn't physical. Jones isn't physical, and Trouba's gone.

He doesn't currently fit into the mix of NYR dmen. He doesn't provide a need.

What he is, is the Temu version of Adam Fox. We don't need that. We need someone that can clear the crease, destroy people along the boards and dump pucks in. Jones is an offensive blueline turnover machine.

Is he better offensively than Vaakanainen? Sure. Not better enough to warrant him playing, which is why he isn't playing.

13 points in their last 23 games and the direction is still to burn down any roster player that criticizes management rather than change the management lol.

Wonder if Rangers ownership realizes how unwilling anybody of value is going to be to sign with Drury without an NMC.
That's a good thing.

I wonder if Knoblauch has EDM send out some feelers. Coached him in HFD.
I would say that Jones is a better puck mover than Nils Lundkvist so don't let his draft position influence your assessment of Zac.
He might be a reasonable fit.

Option A for us is to pick up a 2nd pairing RD. If that proves too expensive to make happen. option B is to pick up a puckmoving 3LD to pair with Emberson.

This was definitely a pairing for the Wolfpack while he was there, so some existing chemistry. I think they also might have some world junior crossover.

Love the Temu comment!

The D was not good last year either tbh. Igor hid a lot what's happening now. You need a couple of young (slightly more talented Brendan Smith's). Keep Fox (although I am not sure Brooksie is wrong on considering before NTC kicks in) and Schneider, who is ok as a third pairing guy. We had same problem in Jersey. Adding Dillon and Pesce has allowed for an "adult" D with kids.

A grand slam to the teeth of the players still left on the team and a red flag for any free agent considering signing there.

Yeah---here's the thing and it happens every summer. When the money for free agents starts to run out players get more desperate to find teams willing to pay them. The very top end guys like Rantanen, Marner if they get to free agency will get to choose their destinations more than say even a guy like Tavares. Towards the middle to end of the first day guys tend to just start going with the best offers because their options start to dwindle. Because if a player waits too long often it means teams that were interested make other decisions. I'm guessing the Rangers will have a lot more cap to spend this summer than they have had in a long while. They might not get the very top end guys but I suspect they'll bring in a pretty good defenseman or two and maybe a pretty good forward---or at least if that's the direction they decide on. I think it will be just because they have a lot of ELC and second contract players working their way into the lineup as it is.

Will sign for cheap on a team way better than us, come in as a depth player in the playoffs and make an impact, making Drury look utterly ridiculous.

Going to go ahead and suggest that the armies of paid pros who do this for a living (some well into the millions of dollars per year range) probably know more than us posters on a website.

He’s okay, but to say he’s better than anyone they have iced over the last four seasons - sure you could argue guys like Ruhwedel or the other “7th” D the Rangers have trotted out, but I’m not going as far as to say he beats out Fox, Miller, Schneider, Trouba, or even Lindgren. Maybe offensively for some, but he doesn’t score enough to overlook his defensive inabilities in comparison to those. So he’s at best fighting for the 6/7 spot, and likely best served being a top-2 in the AHL for his own development. But that was apparently an issue for him.
Well this season at least he's been better than most of those. Last season he might have been even better defensively.

I don't understand this "we will give you permission to seek a trade"

I know he's been a twerp, but if the Rangers are really willing to move him, if I were the gm of the Rangers I'd quickly just send out 31 offers to each team. See who bites. Is it really that hard? Seems like the return would be better...i guess i just don't understand the process.
It seems like a big F you from the team to the player. "We're not willing to take two minutes to cc an email to all the GMs for your whiny ass, but if you can convince someone to send us an offer we'll consider it"

I think its more of a chance to show a player who thinks the grass is greener elsewhere that he should appreciate that he's standing on grass in the first place, and if you think management is holding you back, go see for yourself.

I get that but I'd be wanting to max out my value regardless of emotions.
