Rangers fire Peter Laviolette

Jobs as head coach are cheap in the nhl
Yep. I mean there were about 10-11 HC changes last season including the in season changes. We are already up to 6 changes this season. Already half the league and depending on a few clubs we could push close to 2/3 of the teams with a new HC since end of 22/23 season to start of 25/26 season.

Its because NHL coaches are mostly a motivational position not a technical one.

I don't think he's a bad coach, but by the end the players could not execute his defensive system. He was having a war of words with his best skater (Fox) in the media over why the system wasn't working.

That's always going to end with the coach being fired.

And towards the end he also went too much towards leaning on the underperforming vets.

He had to go. I really don't dislike the guy or anything. First year went well. Second year was a disaster and firing him was obvious. Wasn't going to work going into next season.

Rangers fired the wrong person. It's mental how many coaching changes in the NHL have been made over the past 5 years. Brass would do well to realize the league has a great amount of parity, which means there is many times a fine line between making the playoffs and golfing early. Lavi is a good coach for a team with a moron as GM. Let the annual NHL musical chairs begin.

Drury deserves to be fired, I agree. But Laviolette also deserved to be fired. 1/2 better than 0/2.

David Quinn was hired in May 2018. The next coach hired will be the 4th HIRED within 8 years. During which they made two ECF appearances with two different coaches.

David Quinn was fired in May 2021. The next coach will be the 4th coach behind the bench in 6 years. Quinn May 21, Turk May 22, Turk May 23, Lavi May 24, Lavi May 25, Next May 26.

4 coaches behind the bench across 6 years. Between the two ECF appearances that led to the coach being axed less than 12 month later, the 1 and 2 OA busting entirely, the colossal hissy fit the team veterans threw this season… this may be the most rotten franchise in the NHL.

100 years, 4 Cups, about 1.5 ever franchise players… just f***ing embarrassing.

Rangers seem like a mess.
Understatement of the year!

Once Lavi said he didn't go into the locker room after games, that's when it was time. He always looked like he checked out on the bench and never made any good adjustments.

Really hope Drury gets the axe next, but he's Dolan's buddy. I hope the players roast Drury to no end during those exit interviews, and Dolan makes the move.

Is Dolan in the exit interviews?

Winning the Presidents trophy is a curse for coaches because 90% chance they're canned within 2 years after tops.

Montgomery in Boston and now Laviolette
