Rangers extend GM Drury for multiple years

I wouldn’t have extended him right now, but if he deserves to be sacked Dolan will pay it out. It’s not a big deal. A billionaire can afford to pay a few million if need be.

He was always likely to get at least another year. If next year goes as bad as this year, he’ll probably be sacked. This year the coach and players were gonna take the hit for the season.

It's easy to extend so you have something in place in case it works out. He could be extended and then terminated in Dec 2025.

I think that there may be some disappointment in that this is the direction the rangers have taken.

Why would you want to take a chance with the guy who made three separate trades this season that netted him three different bottom-pairing caliber defensemen? And that’s not getting into the Panarin sideshow that happened under his watch and only came to light last week.

I know some feel that way, but I think it's unrealistic.

This is a team that won the Presidents Trophy last year and has been to the ECF two of the last three years.

How can you seriously sell a full-on rebuild given that? Like it's not unrealistic to say this Rangers group can't win the Cup. Might very well be true, but actual managing isn't a video game where you randomly just choose to rebuild and can save when things are going well and not save when you don't like the results.

All teams when they have a group of players that have a chance for success are going to go for it and try to win. Rangers simply aren't going to rebuild when they have Shestyorkin and Fox, and they aren't going to get rid of players like that when they have them in their prime (essentially no one relinquishes players of that caliber in this league voluntarily).

I get that. But from what I’ve read, a lot of Ranger fans are not happy with Druery. And in this case, I believe the fans over the old existing management.

This is one of the most baffling moves the organization has made in the last 10 years. He removed the only leaders in the locker room, in Goodrow and Trouba, there was no leadership on that time. He sent out a letter to all GMs letting them know that Zibenejad and Kreider were on the chopping block. Then we act surprised when Zibenejad clearly was having anxiety issues with the team. Kreider checkout the moment that was sent out. He waits for Shesterkin to have the worst season of his career to extend him to the biggest goalie contract in history. And I can go on... as a fan I put a lot of this season on him. He was a major contributing factor to screwing up the teams chemistry and moral.

Can Drury land Tocchet for his new coach? Could that have something to do with him getting extended?
