Rangers Exposed/Protected list

Yeah that's everyone we left unprotected though. There's literally no one who if they were taken, would leave the team in a bind. We planned well for this and had no real players who it will hurt to lose.

If Rooney wants to play for $1M or less I'd even extend him a year or two. He does a solid job in his role, is a good example, and would provide some stability while Morgan Barron and maybe guys like Justin Richards and Pat Khodorenko develop.

Protecting Rooney over Blackwell was dumb but its not the end of the world. Think Gaut will be the guy gone

The main observations and input is from Drury who spent countless hours with these guys, especially when he was behind the bench with Knoblauch and Murphy.

He probably saw fundamental issues in both Gauthier and Howden that are beyond fixable.

I'd rather keep Gauthier and hope he can develop into an Armia type player, and sign Bellemare over a taken Rooney.

They may have left Blackwell available as a carrot to possibly have them skip Gauthier. Who knows the thinking though. I'm still a little disappointed they weren't able to upgrade the 3rd d slot but whatever. We are in really solid shape right now heading into the silly season

I disagree. Blackwell is too small to be a bottom 6 forward and not skilled enough to be a top 6 forward. He's a nice 13 to have.

As for Gauthier, there's a difference between what we all want him to be and what he is - and I think a lot of it has to do with who he is as a person - he's way too nice to ever properly use the body he's been gifted with.

If they already talked to him and came to an agreement and principal but just can't sign it yet then really there's no harm in exposing him. Seattle most likely won't take him because it won't have any idea what the agreement is with the rangers, if they can get a player that's under control they can help them I would suspect that they would rather do that than risk getting nothing by picking a pending at UFA
 
Can Seattle speak with Goodrow and other exposed pending UFAs before the expansion draft?
 
The absolute most boss move that could happen right now would be that there's an agreement in principle that Seattle picks and signs goodrow And then deals and back to the rangers at a large cost with salary retained. I know there's a 0% chance of that happening, but it would be absolutely hilarious
