i think the big problem here is that nobody is overperforming.
usually on a team you'll have a few guys underperform, a few guys overperform, and it'll even out.
it happens short term and long term.
For every Aaron Voros hot streak, there's a Jaromir Jagr cold streak.
the problem here is that the only "positive" has been Brad Richards returning to norm...so you can't even count that as a positive since he's basically producing at the rate you'd project him to based on his career track record. (though not against last years performance, particularly down the stretch).
So, with Nash, Cally and Hagelin being injured, youre seeing those guys as "underperforming" what youd expect.
But, through a combined 54 man games played, Arron Asham, Dominc Moore, Rick Nash, Brian Boyle, Benoit Pouliot, Derick Brassard, Derek Stepan, MZA, Jesper Fasth, JT Miller, and Taylor Pyatt have COMBINED to score a grand total of.....ZERO GOALS.
You usually don't like to blame bottom guys when the team cant score, but they are all ice cold. Zero goals for some big names and zero goals for some intermediate names, and zero goals for some blah names.
When only 3 forwards have scored for you through 6 games, there are a lot of problems going on.
One could argue unsustainable problems. The likelyhood of that many players being that cold for much longer is statistically unlikely.
You'd have to think this team will start exploding offensively for the mean to approach a more sustainable level. Just cant have this many guys be this cold for much longer.
