It's not that surprising to me that the secondary scoring had dried out. The Devils are playing airtight defense, but that requires extreme focus and commitment. Phenomenal skaters and high IQ players like Bratt, Hughes, or even Hischier (not as good of a skater but still way above average) aren't impacted as much, but for the others it will have an impact on their offensive numbers.

The bottom six has gotten good looks over the last few games, they'll score, it's just a drought. Fortunately it's easy to be patient because literally everything else is going right.

Nah. For offense maybe not the little things. I still like Cotter

lol Funny you say that because I'd say it's the exact opposite. Cotter has the higher offensive upside than Tatar at this point but Cotter provides quite literally nothing besides hits while Tatar is the little thing king and it's why he constantly drives elite results.

Tatar-Dowling-Bastian had a 95% xG together the last 2 games. They have a 97% through 2 periods tonight. @BostonDevil It's a good 4th line lol
Dowling away from MacDermid is very solid. Can’t ask for much more from a fill in 4C.

If we need save every dollar we can at the deadline, I’m comfortable with him there and then Lazar back to wing if someone needs to be moved to make the money work.

Yes but for their roles on a 4th line. Id take Cotter

Hard disagree. Tatar's been on the 4th line for the majority of the year and constantly tilts the ice to an absurd degree. All Cotter provides is hits. He's out of my healthy lineup. Nate's better and also throws around the body. Lazar as well.

Yes, but I think those good looks that don't go in are related to some point to the tighter defense. With a looser system they might, for example, crash the net with multiple players when now they want to make sure they always cover the backend.
