Kinkaid or Georgiev as Rangers backup, trade Georgiev

Why would Dallas trade Oettinger? He is the goalie of their future. Teams try not to rush goalies as #1 until around 24/25...otherwise you get the Steve Mason/Carter Hart affect. If anything Khudobin will either go on waivers or go for a future considerations once Bishop comes back.

There is no guarantee Oettinger will end up their goalie of the future. His performances will determine if that will end up being the case. If the Stars wanted to move him, teams would line up for him. The Stars basically guaranteed Oettinger is spending the entire season in the AHL. He should be pissed and annoyed. It won't easy to move Khudobin's money. He has another year left. $3,333,333. $3.75M. Bishop has another year left. $4.9M. Bishop could rise up from the ashes and be healthy enough to play next season. He wants another NHL contract. The money is sweet.

Georgiev might very well clear as well with his current contract. Suggesting Kinkaid is an indictment of Georgie, no one is suggesting that Kinkaid woke up this morning and is suddenly a stud.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I’ve had preferred to dump Georgie in the offseason and pick up a capable vet. I wouldn’t go crazy after a few games but I would start reaching out around the league to see if someone has an upgrade whose maybe sitting 3rd on the depth chart somewhere.

I think the ship sailed on getting much of anything for Georgiev. Likely a rfa they let walk to ufa

but he’s better than Kinkaid and the 1st games goals for the most part were not on him

Alex was better a couple years ago. His game seems to have regressed. It happens and especially to younger goalies such as Carter Hart last year. I remember when Marc-Andre Fleury would choke every time the playoffs started. Just moving Alex though and expecting Kinkaid to do better—to me that will just be a lateral move at best.

I like the Oettinger idea. I don’t know whether Dallas would do it but he pretty much shared the Dallas net with Khudobin last year and actually had better numbers. I also think that it would take more than a reputation damaged Kravtsov to get Oettinger.

I thought we should have traded Georgiev before last season as I was afraid his value would only fall moving forward, and I think it definitely has.

With that in mind, it's been several years since Kinkaid has played well in the NHL and I'm not sure he'd be a better choice. He's probably more consistent than Georgiev in terms of knowing what you'll get from him, but he's also probably not going to steal the show like Georgiev can when he's on.

I think you stick with Georgiev and if there are problems further into the season, maybe try to make a move for someone else.
Georgiev can definitely steal games if he's on. But he's been "off" for how many starts now?

He's a respectable talent at the position. I just think he deteriorated last year without Hank in the organization. I think in his mind, he may have finally been competing for a number 1 spot, and for whatever reason, put too much pressure on himself last year, and may have developed some bad habits now.

He's getting beaten cleanly from the blue line some nights. It's alarming. Against Washington, he was pretty lost. Let's not forget the one goal that was disallowed for offsides - it was bad. He saw it cleanly and still got beat.

I don't disagree that Georgiev has really been fighting it. It's just, while Kinkaid had a couple nice performances last year, he ultimately played to a .898 SV%. So while I get wanting to replace Georgiev and am fine with that, I'm not really sure if Kinkaid is the guy you want to do it with. There's a reason we could sign him for $825K and pass him through waivers.

Yeah this is how I see it as well. I think we need a better #2 but I don't think Kinkaid is that guy.

I don't see a young guy gunning for a starting job as the right fit. The Rangers could use an established backup who really understands his role. I think Georgiev is struggling knowing that he's never going to take over as the #1 here and he's crumbling under that weight. The Rangers badly overplayed their hand with him and it'd be in Georgie's best interest to move on.
