I don't think their problems are because of Shesterkin or even his contract. They just weren't built good enough.

Their ongoing implosion has been driven in part by the Shesterkin contract talks, then they overpaid him, and also I think they assumed they were 'close' because he went godmode in the playoffs.

Unfortunately, their locker room revolted. If those rumors are true that the players were bagging it to target Drury, which could have merit (and honestly it's looking true). Then the Shesterkin contract and Lafreniere contracts kinda snowballed everything.
