This is an understatement. Carlyle has driven the 18 wheeler right off the cliff here. The team is the worst in the NHL now. Any team that plays Toronto knows they will get at least 50 shots and puck possession for 50 min out of the 60.

As much as I would like to defend the Leafs, this is completely true. It's getting really frustrating how Carlyle doesn't make any changes when the team is getting outplayed every single game.
Bench some players. Different PK strategy. Forward backchecking. We haven't seen any of these so far (other than benching Liles).

I agree. He should adapt his game plan to maximize the players he has, not the ones he wishes he had.
His misuse of players is getting really tiresome. I'm sure Grabovski is having an ok time in Washington.

Because Lupul, arguably their best all around player who actually can win one-on-one battles and create chances through his own play, is not out there with one of the other three skilled offensive players (Kessel, JVR and Kadri)? Makes no sense to me considering the circumstances. Carlyle buried Lupul in Anaheim, and he doesn't seem to be too fond of him here either. He really should be out there with either Kessel or Kadri, and then JVR gets paired up with whoever isn't with Lupul.
The proof is in the pudding, just look at what it did for the offense in prior years.

This is such a boneheaded comment.
Nobody considered this team an elite team.
But this isn't a second rate hockey team. It's a good roster, that isn't being utilized.
Take your pick:
St. Louis away
Boston away
Chicago away
Vancouver away
San Jose at home
All games against big teams. Want to know what the key ingredient in all of those games was?
The Leafs were embarrassed and out-classed. A good period against SJ aside, they've never been in any of the games mentioned above. It's been men against boys stuff.
I don't expect my team to win every night. But I do expect my team to look like a competent ****ing hockey team every night. Far too many nights this season, we've looked like a team that is lost and unclear on what the coaches want them to do.

The players just don't seem to care enough to put the effort in to reverse their bad fortunes. For the most part all these mistakes are coming from sloppy plays and laziness.
In every one of those games outside of the Boston games (felt we actually played OK if not for the momentum crushing penalties, they had 0 ES goals in over 100 minutes of play against us), it felt like the Leafs were a junior team facing an NHL team.
We're going to get run out of our own rink tomorrow and I can only hope that we can begin the counting till Carlyle's fired.
Knowing the Leafs, he probably signs an extension after the Leafs lose 7-2 to the Hawks. He gets rewarded with the extension because we scored 2 goals.

Can't disagree with that. Us being unable to break out of our zone can't be laziness. Not every time. There is flaw with the system.

I think buying Grabo out was a mistake. Not just looking at his points, his thing was puck possession. The hardest worker.. If Kessel had his drive he'd be 100 point player. Never shied away.
Funny seeing so many ex Leafs killing it (Gus, Scrivens, Mcarthur, Grabo, Steen, some might include Rask) but doubt most would do as well here and guys like Rask and Steen haven't played here in years (Rask technically never played). But Grabo IMO would be a big help. The problem was buying him out due to 1 good year by Kadri and replacing him with Clarkson.

Carlyle is a coach whose shelf life has expired here in Toronto. If his reputation as an uncommunicative leader is anything to go by, he's probably not the right guy to lead the team out of this funk.
Ex-players like Bobby Ryan, Joffrey Lupul, Ryan Getzlaf, Clarke MacArthur, Mikhail Grabovski, Luke Schenn have all spoken to how the guy doesn't talk to them, doesn't address issues, doesn't utilize them in the proper situations.
Whatever systematic flaws the Leafs have, it doesn't seem like he's been able to correct those issues at an individual level. The problems have snowballed and the Leafs are in the beginning stages of a free fall.
Carlyle insists on deploying his cast as if they were his ideal squad. You can't use the same game plan with guys like Kadri, Kessel, etc as if they were Getzlaf, Perry, nor do you have the same luxury of having at least four useless hockey bodies in the lineup any given night Fraser, Ranger, Orr and McLaren are in the lineup. There's no Pronger, no Niedermayer, no exceptional players to pick up the slack.
Joffrey Lupul has completely regressed this year under Carlyle. It's like he turned him back into the ineffective Duck he originally was.
There is no meritocracy in Toronto. How does Gardiner or Rielly get ice time in the mid 20s one game and sat completely the next? Not sure you can yo-yo a guy from your most important to not fit to dress from one game to the next with no in between.
The Midas touch with the goaltending has turned into a mess. You take two hot goalies who are competing for a number one job and you throw all criteria for winning the job out the window. You win and you're out. You lose and you're back in. There's no rhythm and no reward for playing well and no consequence for stinking it up. Both goalies now look lost and demoralized.
And to make things even worse, the team is completely uninteresting to watch. Contrast them to the 2011-12 Wilson Leafs before the 18 wheeler fell off the cliff and it's crazy how boring and terrible this improved squad looks compared to that run and gun number. If we're going to lose, I'd rather lose 6-5 than 6-1.

Hey Stephen, when did Luke Schenn make negative comments about Carlyle? He actually praised him for communication and hated Wilson.
And the problem is compounded due to resigning bozak for 5 years. I am seriously? Is Nonis looking to move forward or what? Taking two steps backwards and taking one forward doesn't move you forward. Nonis screwed up BIG time and yes the blames is also shared by this Moron called Carlyle.
Grabo should have been used with Kessel and JVR to get the most out of him with Bozo on the third line as a checker. But.......
Huge mistake, Grabo has the heart of lion.
Basically it was Grabo out, Clarkson in... Yikes!
I'm not a huge Carlyle supporter, but this is just an awful meme.

If they lose the next two against Chicago and Pittsburgh it wouldn't be surprising because their opponents are much stronger then the team Carlyle has to coach.
It would put the Leafs at .500 on the season however with 35 points after 35 games.

at the same time the problem with the team isn't just it's not a strong one it's also carlyle appears to be coaching bad. nonis can't let things get totally out of hand
