This is so random

1. So I was wondering how teams travel when playing a team within close proximity. For example, Let's say the devils and the rangers are playing at MadIson square garden.Since the two arenas are located only 20-30 minutes apart , can the devils players separately drive their own car or somethjng like that, or do they have to travel together as a team/leave as a team?

2. Similar question I'm regards to when two teams play that are within reasonable driving distance, my question is do they fly a team plane or take a bus?

Examples are

- flyers vs Pitt/NJ/NYR/NYI
-TBL vs FLA
- DeTroit vs Toronto
- Calgary vs Edmonton
- Pittsburgh vs Columbus

Where is the threshold where teams fly, vs when they can take a team bus

Ottawa to Toronto is a 5h bus ride or an hour plane ride, Montreal is really a 2h ride and tack on an extra hour ish to go from Ottawa to Buffalo. these are just my best estimates, those are the only teams we could theoretically get to by a bus.

An hour to get from Ottawa to Buffalo? Nah man.

I've always wondered this as well, if the flames took the 3h bus ride to Edmonton or the 30 minute flight up there lol

I always wondered what happens when a guy is called up from the AHL affiliate.

I assume the big club pays travel costs, but in many cases there are no big airports around. Do they taxi the player to the nearest major airport ? Does the player get a rental car ?

Isn't the drive closer to two hours? I'd guess the bus. It's a bit more private, easier for the coaching staff to speak, ect. The flight may only be 30 minutes, but you also take into account how long it takes to actually board the plane, get off, ect.

Devils will take a bus to Rangers, Islanders and Flyers.

They meet at the Devil's arena (which is also where their practice arena is located) in Newark and all the players travel together on the bus. Don't think I ever recall hearing about any players travelling on their own, even though a few players live in Hoboken and could probably get to MSG quicker than Newark.

Philly to Pittsburgh is about a 5 hours by bus, so fairly sure those teams will always fly to see each other.

Teams charter or have their own plane.

I'd honestly estimate that flight at about 25 minutes.

The drive is three hours. With how tight NHL schedules are I can't she how a team could bus to a city that is anything over 1.5 to 2 hours drive. One accident or bad weather (I know I would not want to drive I70 to Pittsburgh in a snow storm) and you're screwed.

And the time it takes to drive from YEG to actually get to Edmonton, lol.
