Proposal: Rakell to the Kings

Moore's pretty clearly a middle-6 guy while Rakell is a top-6 guy. Under normal circumstances, the difference between those two is like a 2nd rounder. But with how good of a season Rakell is having, the value difference right now is larger.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a 1st coming back with Moore, but Rakell is notably more valuable than Moore is right now. It's either a B prospect and a 2nd or a 1st on top of Moore for Rakell.

delusional.

if you removed his career year hes having this year rakell is .61ppg moore. .50. thats 10 points over a season.... hardly worth a 1st.
Actually this isn't Rakell's best year. His best goals per game was '16-'17 and this year's gpg pace was matched in '17-'18. He also had a better ppg in '17-'18.

Have all Kings fans on here forgotten about the instant 20% points tax that all Kings players are subject to? A 30 goal scorer in Pittsburgh only scores 24 in LA. I wish I could change it but unfortunately it’s the law.

Rakell would be Arvidsson 2.0. Which wouldn’t be a bad thing, but I’d hate to give up a first for a complementary winger. I think it’s too much value to give up to be honest. We aren’t a Rakell away from competing for the cup.

That’s not to say Rakell isn’t worth it, just that LA shouldn’t do it. How many more first round exits to Edmonton before Blake and Luc are fired? We should hold onto those picks. When Kopitar and Doughty retire, it’s going to be tough in LA.

Rakell 25 goals and playmaking is going to be very expensive to trade for. Dubas will move only if an offer is just too good to pass up. That trade doesn't come close to what Pens need. Pens have LW's in the system and only a young RW or center and higher pick in the draft has any interest.

Moore doesn't fit the Pens timeline at all

Raks isn't being moved in any sort of hockey deal. Obviously the Pens would take back salary as needed but the deal is for futures/NHL ready prospects.

Hypothetically if Rakell was traded for Moore though, that would give the Kings the following top nine:

Rakell - Kopitar - Kempe
Fiala - Byfield - Laferriere
Turcotte - Danault - Foegele

I actually like this top 9 a lot (hence the original proposal lol).

Everyone is essentially slotted where they 'should' be.

Rakell, Kopitar, and Kempe are all first line players. Fiala, Byfield, Laferriere - all second line players. And then you have Turcotte, Danault, and Foegele as your energy/checking 3rd line. They wouldn't have to count on a guy like Turcotte, Jeannot, Laferriere (although Laf would be solid on line 1 IMO), Moore, etc playing up in the lineup on the 1st line - They would have a legitimate 1st line winger to fill that hole.

I know that top 9 still lacks the star power other contending teams will have - but with the way the Kings play defensively and the way their D core has been looking this year, really all the Kings need is a modest boost offensively (in particular on the power play). A guy like Rakell could certainly help provide that.

I'm not opposed to targeting other players - I just see Rakell as one of the most realistic options in terms of cost.

You might be right but this team needs help badly offensively if they're going to have a chance to get out of the 1st round.

Have to give to get. Adding another 20/30 goal scorer to the Kings roster (especially a right shot who can instantly slot onto their 1st PP unit) could be worth the 1st.
The Kings badly need an architect in building an actual team. I really don't want to see the Kings getting into any trades until they show Blake the door.

Would rather spend the extra prospect capital and go after Tuch if he would be made available.

If not, I would stay on the Buffalo train and go after Cozens. Allie doesn’t have a lot in the prospect line to give up, so if they are going to go that route, I’d rather them get a long-term young guy back.

No disrespect to Rakell as he is a hell of a player, but I wouldn’t be giving up the farm for him. It would be a hockey trade and a B prospect. Salary would have to go out and I think that’s why Moore is being included. LA hosts the draft this year, so I don’t think they would be giving up a first round pick. There second round pick is gone in the Tanner Jeannot deal and I don’t believe Blake only does one pick in the first 3 rounds so therefore I don’t think the third round pick would be in play.

So unless it is a Moore, Burroughs and Pinelli type trade which even I don’t think would be close to enough in Pittsburghs eyes, would it be worth it for LA to spend more for a player that doesn’t really move the needle that much in the long term.

He's tripling Moore in goals and doubling him in points, but okay.
Shooting 17% and playing with sid will do that. Had season tix throughout his entire time with the Duck and am well acquainted with his game, good player still not that much if at all better than moore who's having a poor year. Last year was the opposite moore had 31G 57P Rakell had 15G 37P. So yes not worth a 1st to upgrade to me, but okay.
