Proposal: Rakell to Edmonton

To Edmonton: Rakell
To Pittsburgh: Arvidsson, Henrique, Savoie, 2026 1st

Oilers clear out a lot of bad cap, add a versatile scoring winger on a great deal for the next few years, and the Pens get well-compensated in futures for helping them out.

Swap out Savoie for Berezkin and Petrov

Don't see it. Another winger past age 30, the Oilers have more pressing needs, specifically in net.
IMO they’d be best served trying to find the next Stolarz, Thompson, Lindgren type. An undervalued 2nd or 3rd stuck behind a more established starter.

You’re more likely to find a gem bargain hunting with goalies than at any other positions. Save the premium trade assets for top 6 forwards, top 4 D, maybe a 3C if the value is there.

Rakell and Arvidsson produce at similar rates, are the same age, with Arvidsson making less and not signed into his mid 30s. I totally get that Rakell is having a much better season, recency bias shouldn’t cost that much.
I can see where you're coming from, in that I think Arvidsson will be much better next season than he is this season. Another year to recover from his injury (injuries?) will be beneficial to him.
Can find his own zone better than Rakell as well.
Rakell actually has pretty good defensive metrics this season, and his defense since he's been a Penguin hasn't ever really been bad. He also played with Malkin for much of the time he's been here, so while this season might be a 'Crosby' thing, his whole Penguins tenure hasn't been.

And so did 60+ other players. And Arvidson had 26 goals in 5 fewer games the same season, but one player is a sniper and the other is crap.....
This year, yes. Rakell has a history of scoring AND he's scoring a lot of goals this year with a p/g Crosby, meanwhile Arvidsson can't manage .5 p/g playing with the 2nd leading scorer in the NHL.

I'm not sure why you think that's a minor issue. Recent performance matters. A lot. Particularly for teams wuth Cup aspirations.

Sold. Pricey but I guess we are taking not 1 but 2 iffy deals.

So I can see taking on more than a 1st. Maybe we throw a 3rd back.

Wait, if we're talking about his valie as a goal scorer, should we not look at the number of goals he scores?

Raks started last year injured and scored 0 goals before taking a month off to address the issue. He scored all 15 of his goals last season in like 50 games after coming back from it.

Might have been bad luck posting this from an Edmonton perspective, because Rakell is the exact type of player who’s going to end up in Vegas by Friday.

The discussion was about what happend two seasons ago, but yea lets move the goalposts.

As for Arvidson vs Rakell this season, I am not concerned because:
1) I do not think that the Oilers should pay a step price to "upgrade" from Arvidsson to Rakell
2) Worst thing a GM can do is trade based on just the past few games. Players are oftend cold/hot for 20-30 games, but larger samples often are better predictors for the future than the last couple games. Chemestry also matters.
3) IMO Oilers have much bigger problems to fix than improving their #6 FWD for the playoffs. Selling the farm for that it would be stupid.

Recency bias is the only thing you have to go off of. What good is someone who put up points 2 years ago if they cant put any up this year in the playoffs? What kind of ass backwards logic is that?
