To Edmonton: Rakell
To Pittsburgh: Arvidsson, Henrique, Savoie, 2026 1st

Oilers clear out a lot of bad cap, add a versatile scoring winger on a great deal for the next few years, and the Pens get well-compensated in futures for helping them out.

The cost for Rakell alone at this point shoud be a mid-late 1st and a decent prospect or equivalent.

In this deal, we'd be doing the added favour of taking on significant cap this year and next.

Rakell might be having a good season but hes on the wrong side of 30 and has scored 60 points once in the last six seasons. Sure hes signed for another year but I dont think the Pens are getting that much for him.

The Oilers are pretty high on Savoie.

He is on an entry level contract which is a big deal for this team. He also adds speed, skill and youth to the line up which the Oilers desperately need.

I doubt he gets moved this year.

I think we are either getting the 1st or Savoie, not both.
You'd get both if you had to take on the bad contracts of Henrique & Arvadsson. Neither is a UFA this summer.

I'd want that 2026 1st with very light protections in the event McDavid leaves this upcoming summer after getting bounced in round 1 in a few months.

Maybe McDavid will be best remembered for winning a one-off all star type event in 2025 with an nice overtime goal. His career defining moment!

Rakell for Arvidsson and a 2026 1st seems a lot closer to me. Maybe throw on some meh prospect on Edmonton's side but nothing on par with Savoie.
This seems right to me.

Rakell’s a much better player than a lot are giving credit for. He’s just not worth the OP’s package.

Rakell with retention for a 1st is fine with me, because I don’t think anything else we get in a package is notable. Maybe an additional late draft pick.

We have a Matt Grzelcyk.
Lol

Why don't you think we'd get more for Rakell than we got for Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor?

Arvidsson+2026 1st+Beau Akey is what I'd be asking for.

That may seem like a bit much, but if the Penguins are having to take on extra years of the cap dump, I want a bit more, not unlike getting Fernstrom with the Pettersson deal (basically a well performing 3rd). I'd be willing to alter it if Edmonton takes Acciari.

Stop being too concerned with cap dump. Pitts need the extra cap dump to reach the floor. This is money in and money out. It's not really cap dump either

Lol, the Penguins will have ZERO issue getting to the floor. There are two types of roster players the Penguins should be looking at:
1. Legitimate roster players that can actually help the team now and be flipped later. I think Arvidsson falls into this category. Similar to Bunting last year. Similar to Trevor Moore in the thread about Rakell to LA.
2. Expiring contract players. From Edmonton - Skinner, Perry, Brown, Klingberg...sure. Henrique and Janmark? No. We are not taking on multiple roster players without some extra payment, not unlike we got with the Pettersson deal.

If we are trading our first for a forward, I'd rather go for more of a goal scorer than Rakell. A sniper to play with McDavid would be a much better pickup than Rakell. I like Rakell well enough, but we don't have enough premium assets in the system to make him our top target.

Rakell is 20th in the league in goals. Unless you think Rantanen is a possibility that is the best goal scorer available.

Rakell is pacing for 35 goals this year. I have some bad news for you if you think better goal scorers are going to be available at the TDL for any reasonable prices.

If you want better than Rakell, Rantanen is about your only option. As a pure rental, I think other teams will easily outbid you.

I've wanted Rakell in Edmonton for a long time and would love to see him here. I'd prefer to keep Henrique though. He's not putting up a lot of points but he's not a detriment either, and his experience is huge in the playoffs.

Don't see it. Another winger past age 30, the Oilers have more pressing needs, specifically in net.
