OT - NO POLITICS Rainy Weekends Always Get Me Down edition

I completed the Lego Milky Way set last night. 3,,091 pieces total. It is absolutely worth the $199 price tag. I really want to buy the light kit but it would mean that I have to take it apart and re-do 12 panels to add the LED lights.

Wow, that is awesome!!

It is shameful how little respect veterans are getting, seems lessons have been forgotten pretty quickly lately. Our veterans deserve so much better, and I am talking about around the world. They fought so hard for freedom, let's hope for a better world and that people fight for their rights.

Don’t know what you have been seeing but I have witnessed tons of respect today

I could launch into a screed, but I shall not.

I will leave you with one statistic among many.

Roughly 7,000 active duty American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan lost their lives.

Roughly 30,000 American soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan lost their lives.

To suicide.

Time for another "I have an awesome neighbor" story.

I have an old Sauder entertainment center, you know, the kind built to hold 600-lb box televisions and entire DVD collections lol.

Well...I had tried repurposing it to hold my crochet supplies, but it just wasn't practical. I was going to call a junk hauler to take it out, but then my neighbor said I should just set it out for bulk trash pickup. That never occurred to me, but hey, it's free. So then the next problem was, the thing was way too heavy for us drag out there. No problem, says neighbor. We took off the doors and the back panel, then she said to just rock it back and forth and it would collapse on its own. Sure enough, it did.

Me: :amazed:

Then to top it off, she dragged the pieces down to the end of the driveway for pickup today while I was at work (don't get me started on why I had to work today ugh).

I love good neighbors.

Good neighbors are so important. Feels like people knowing their neighbors isn’t really A Thing all that often anymore.

We are fortunate living on a dead end, there’s only 5 houses (and all owner occupied, which is rare around here) - we all look out for each other and our properties.

It's the best. I had years and years of apartment living as an adult, and only getting to be friends with a couple people. Most I didn't really want to know LOL. But I grew up in a neighborhood where everybody knew everybody, and we all got along. It's nice to have that again here, to an extent. It makes me smile even just waving to the guy across the street when we both leave for work at the same time.

I have, I think, 3 clients that have military backgrounds. (as well as a husband) I've not had any with ideations, but we have dealt with patterns and conditioning that has led to burnout and patterns that have become relationship and life obstacles.

edit: there is a wonderful practitioner named Alaine Duncan who does important work on the somatic/trauma side working with veterans. She wrote "the Tao of Trauma." Highly recommend.

They are helpful, aren't they?

And too, as Robert Frost wrote, good fences make good neighbors.

Put extra flags on both grandpa's graves and the turkeys were out in full force. Went through a bush and he met me right there

Beautiful creature. Threw him a peanut butter cracker so he'd walk away. He was very happy and let me go by without any incident.

I'd like to think one of turkeys were my grandfathers. I know, might not make sense to you. But I believe animals can be loved ones visiting. I never got to meet them. One served in WWI. The other WWII. ❤️

The good news is that structurally, my hips look great and there isn’t any arthritis per the X-rays. The bad news is I have bursitis and everything is very angry. I was able to get a cortisone injection in the office so hopefully it works even a little. I go back to see him in July. A bit surprised he didn’t order an MRI but judging from the amount of swelling it would have been pointless. Now if I don’t get any relief, I will request an MRI.

Great news about your hips! :vhappy:

Hopefully the cortisone takes care of the bursitis, which can be nasty. :crossfing

As someone who has had one hip broken and replaced and had seriously arthritic hips anyway back from my mid 20s, I am very glad it is "Just" bursitis. MRI might be a good idea.

I think our town must set a record for the most chain chicken restaurants in less than a 2 mile radius.

Zaxby's
Popeye's
Slim Chickens
Raising Cane's (literally next door to Slim)
Bojangles

Oh and they're building Chick Fil A in the middle of all this too.

Plus there are a handful of local chicken restaurants.

How many chicken tender joints does one town need?? lol it's ridiculous

I just tried Cane's last night, only because I was given a gift card for it. It was tasty but their menu is extremely limited compared to the other chains
