Moreso the fact that she's been openly critical in the past, and this shows there might be some thicker skin developing.

Did she criticize Aquilini personally or Rutherford in the past? Otherwise, it's not really a fair point. If she had insulted Brent Sopel's hair you may be less inclined or more inclined to hire her. :sarcasm:

I think there are enough internal people here at play that these things get flagged. For the Leafs consultant the issues were his likes on twitter, Doerrie's possible flags were public posts and podcast appearances. Even a not-very-tech-savvy person can find those kinds of things.

But Rutherford might not care, as long as she didn't criticize ownership or himself and it isn't something that would bring too much controversy to the Canucks.

Heck, Ryan Biech had been openly critical of Canucks management in the past and Benning hired him.

Doerrie also says that Brackett did not want to take Juolevi.

Re: 2021 Draft: said to avoid Luke Hughes re: character and injury concerns, at 9 the Canucks should look at Kent Johnsson, McTavish if he fell, Wallstedt (she had him ranked 3rd), Oscar Ollausson, Guenther, Aatu Raty.

The things heard about L Hughes were worse than the things heard about Ryan Merkley in his draft year, but his family pedigree will prevent him from falling.

Is this a product of them being really close to the tkachuks? Lol glad our hughes turned out okay if that was really the case.

Decided to view some twitter reaction on this news.

I can deal with valid criticisms but holy f***, I have no faith in society reading some of the garbage being posted right now.

The big one that everyone is mad about is that she reported that Pettersson could have returned to the lineup at the end of last season but didn't.
Womp womp.

Francesco Aquilini through/with Benning, Weisbrod and Greener poisoned the relationship between the Canucks and Petey.

My theory is he did it by lying / controlling the narrative.

We know that they only communicated to the players through their agents (no face-2-face management contact).

We also know that Petey switched agents to Quinns in Jan 2021 (J.P. Barry and Pat Brisson at CAA).

Why would you switch agents?

Not for financial reasons. No more cap because Pearson won 2 Stanley Cups.

Well then.. maybe because the Canucks were telling one player one story and the other player a different story?

I'm thinking so.

Shady gaslighting mofos.

Seems like a good hire, I like it.

I'm sure Rutherford confronted her regarding these 'controversies', and I'm sure her answer was good enough considering she got the job.

Not to mention that her actual analytics work was good enough (from Rutherford's pov). And she's only 26, so there's a lot of personal and professional growth in front of her.

Who honestly cares that she spewed some shit on Twitter. Was she 'official' media at the time? Or an employee of the Devils? I like the fact that she's not scared to share her opinion. Twitter is just a peanut gallery.

Explain to me why Brian Williams (a respected journalist and newscaster at the time) told and retold the story about how the chopper he was on was forced down by enemy fire or Hillary Clinton (a favourite to win the Presidency at the time) telling a story of dodging sniper fire in Bosnia when she was filmed being greeted on the tarmac with flowers.

Because people don't invent stories? It's really bizarre that you believe this.
As an aside, Malcolm Gladwell did a podcast about the Brian Williams thing where he argued that the telling and re-telling by Brian Williams over the years since the incident matches normal human memory deterioration. When the incident first happened in 2003, he never said that his helicopter got hit by an RPG, only that the helicopter ahead of him was, and sometime in the early 2010s he started to combine the two. Seems like you might be misremembering the situation too? (I probably would have as well, had I not listened to the podcast.)

Don’t care about her past comments, as long as she’s good at her job and a professional then that’s all that matters. I think people are losing sight of how young she is, she’s in my age group and we all say stupid shit when sometimes we shouldn’t.

I think it's fine to claim that media is sometimes incentivized to stir things up - but it's usually house media that do that on the direction of the team as propaganda (see: MacIntyre v Lack which was resolved). There's also shit like this from HHOF journos:

View attachment 500089

But that shit happens when you're firmly in the "club". It makes no sense for a young woman, clearly outside of that club to make stuff up.

Of course, Doerrie was as popular as she was as an analyst for saying shit like this:

Which is wholly true, but the sort of thing that most media members shy away from in order to maintain "neutral" (ie. Drance) in case of future employment opportunities.

lmao she said benning was glueing macaroni pieces to a paper? i love her

Not sure why some are worried because of what she said as a media person. We are hiring her for her analytics, not the media side. Saying shit to get clicks/views and analyzing hockey are distinctively different skill sets.

Tej is the worst part of canucks twitter.
I don’t get how a random fan triggers that many people though. It’s not like he’s a media guy like IMac who we have to see on Sportsnet.

For the record, he seems like a stupid Benning Bro so I’m not defending him

He did briefly have air time on 650. But I don't follow him and mostly avoid him and his cohorts but every so often you hear about the dumb shit he posts.

Fair, but at the end of the day he’s just some random Canucks fan. Who cares if his opinions are dumb, there’s hundreds of dumb Benning Bros on Twitter

lol @ 650 giving him airtime though

every time you access a memory, you alter the memory.

human memory is extremely, extremely bad. Even for “vivid memories” that people would bet large amounts on.

Well, I hear people saying some good things. I'll just assume they know more than I... Especially since I apparently blocked her Twitter at some point. Hope it was for all the Toronto FC posts
