Quite frankly, it's a bad look for Dundon and his Management that they can't get FDSouth to offer one for the Canes too (even if it cost Dundon some $$$$)

I think you are mistaking who is at fault for the lack of a broadcast. It is probably not that Dundon "can't get FDSouth to offer one", it is that Dundon has likely said he won't pay for one.

Is there no FanDuel coverage of round 2? I thought last year they got to do the first 2 rounds.

Three years ago, they did a recap show of the Round 2 games, but never actually showed the games. Last year and this year, they haven't done anything. Both ESPN and TNT have owned the broadcasting rights for Round 2 onwards for a couple years now

If so, I put the broadcast of those shows in the category of something you do as a cost of business in running a franchise.

Maybe, but until that happens, you're asking a company that literally filed for bankruptcy last year to put on a production that we already have evidence of not justifying the cost of putting on. Don't blame FanDuel or Dundon in that case. That's on the viewers

I recognize that the tectonic shift in viewer subscription habits + Sinclair's overpayment/heavy use of debt to acquire Fox's Regional sports networks led to their financial challenges.

However, they are on much sounder footing since they used the bankruptcy process to eliminate debt ($9 billion of pre-petition debt to $200 million today) and also back out of situations where future team payments were projected to be highly unprofitable (as an example, the Brewers, Diamondbacks, Guardians, Padres, Reds, Rockies, Twins are not part of Main Street Sports Group & are now part of a new combined MLB offering). I suggest to you that if the Canes were not a profitable proposition for Diamond, now Main Street Sports Group, then the Canes would have been dropped too. Thus, for me given the debt restructuring and the on-going commitment to broadcast the Canes, your financial comment rings hollow.

Anyway,

1) When was the last time the Canes had a pre-and post-game playoff broadcast to measure financial results? Certainly not while the team has been on its high level playoff runs (ie, in 2022 2nd and conf. finals were not broadcast). So, I don't conclude that there is current "evidence" re: a P&L impact.

2) Lack of eyeballs could also mean that the FanDuel team needs to improve their production. I do believe that's an area that needs tweaking.

3) FWIW: with almost all teams broadcasting their pre- and post-games, they clearly they see the value in showcasing their team.....at minimum, it's a brand building event to draw in attendance + broadcast eyeballs in subsequent years. Please note that not everything that is done in business is required to have an immediate payoff.

As I noted, at mimium, broadcasting in the playoffs should be viewed as a cost of doing business by both the broadcaster and the team owner.

As I said earlier, we did a postgame show after each game in the 2023 2nd round after having broadcast the 1st round. We couldn't broadcast the games themselves (because again, national TV owns the broadcasting rights), but they had Shane, Mike, Tripp, etc go over the highlights of the game, break it down, interviews, etc.

Ratings were terrible, and even though the team went to the ECF, Bally decided not to do the same for the ECF games. And they've not done postgame shows for games they aren't broadcasting since.
