A big reason for why the Canes are so successful as an organization is their ruthlessness, but I have no doubt that they would've rather kept Pesce (and Guentzel for that matter). The mass of free agency related holes and moving parts, particularly because the Canes wanted to give Jarvis 8 years, led to what occurred. We shouldn't get too nostalgic, though: the Canes recovered about as well as any team would.
