Dom L has spoken. I'll eat crow, Burns played well when we needed him to

Just got home from youth group. Very happy to see the result, I hope Kotchekov found his groove in relief of Freddie who I do hope is okay.

I'm really happy for Svechnikov. We've been wanting him to be a beast in the playoffs and so far he's been our best skater it seems. Playoff hat tricks aren't common for this team and he's got I think the only two in Hurricanes history (don't know about Whalers, need @sabremike to clarify)

Good road playoff win. Please close this out on Tuesday night.

As others have said, game 5 should be the debut for Nikishin…. We are up 3-1, we could easily go 11-7 if we wanted to be even more conservative. But no better scenario to bring him in with the crowd backing him with us controlling the last change in our building…. Gotta find out at some point if he can do it before we go much further in the rounds…. His physicality alone could be very useful in counteracting any kind of push we might see from them…

These charts are very scoring results oriented, moreso than typical fancy stat stuff. See how it says Jarvis was the worst defensive player on the ice? I’m gonna go ahead and guess he, Hall, Kotkaniemi, Orlov, and Chatfield were on the ice for the same goal against.

I’m not going to deny that Burns, you know, scored a goal. Nor that he played better than he’s played previously in this series. But there was still a lot of failed clearances, missed reads, etc., that don’t show up in these Dom charts and won’t reflect poorly unless they come back to bite you with a goal against.

These are the same charts that were used to shit all over Burns last game. And it matches my eye test on the Chatty/Orlov pair today.

Anyone know what kind of system they played in Russia. The Canes ask for a lot from their dmen, with the man to man and play at the blue line and everything else.

Have they practiced with him yet?

Chatfield definitely had a rough game. That pairing simply could NOT clear the zone all game. And, of course, facing the wrong direction of the play... twice...on the first goal against was a terrible look for Chatty

SKA specifically played a lot of the same system we play…. They adopted a lot of the canes stuff for their team… both with our scout being on their staff and with former players TDA and Kuzie showing them.

Yes he has practiced a few times now with the team…. Not as much as regular season as we are resting guys between playoff games but we have had 3 full practices and probably dozens of video meeting with him…

Yup. If Burns was bad, there would have been scoring chances. I only remember that one. No breakaways. No back doors. Just that one good goal early, and the silly goal. And a bunch of point shots and bad angle wristers.

Can't think of an impressive save this game from the Canes goalies, because there were none to be made. They really locked it down.

Nobody managed to get a hatty for the Whalers, lots of two goal games, but Svech has the only two playoff hat tricks in franchise history.

They adopted our system and were a first round out?

Oof

Aren't they a big budget team?
