But he does seem like the kind of player almost certain to be an NHL roster quality guy, even if it’s only in a lesser role

Agreed, and Robertson is definitely the tale of caution here.

But in general, big, rangy, smart defenseman with a good outlet pass are a recipe for success. Smarts being the key that often gets conflated with big defenseman.

Heres the reality. The right side of our D on both 1st and 2nd pair are basically set for the next decade+. So if emery can simply just become a solid 3rd pair RHD, this is a win

He may say he models himself after Miller, but he doesn't really play like him. He can't skate like Miller, he doesn't try to lead the rush or otherwise do too much with the puck on his stick, and he's more physical than Key.
