Draft R1 #23: New York Rangers Select RW Gabriel Perreault (Boston College, NCAA)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Can Perreault go back to school for another season and then become a Free Agent and not sign in NY ???

You would think he might get more money by doing so and on a team he chooses ? What about Leonard ....can he do the same ? If Perreault does sign in NY soon....does he get the ELC deals which certainly would be a lot less then he would get on the open market ?

How would he get more money when he has to sign an ELC either way?

The Rangers need to stop stacking players in front of their young players.

I'm going to predict one of these things happens...

1.) The Rangers sign GP to the ELC and insert him in the playoffs (assuming we make it) and he doesn't look out of place.
2.) The Rangers sign GP to the ELC and insert him in the playoffs (assuming we make it) and he looks overwhelmed.
3.) The Rangers sign GP to the ELC and insert him in the playoffs (assuming we make it) and he doesn't play.
4.) The Rangers sign GP to the ELC and has a great camp, but starts in Hartford.
5.) The Rangers sign GP to the ELC and has a great camp and makes the team, but struggles and gets sent down.
6.) The Rangers sign GP to the ELC and has a great camp and makes the team, plays well, a star is born.
7.) The Rangers sign GP to the ELC and has a tough camp, gets cut, and goes to Hartford.
8.) HFBoards will find a way to complain about every one of the above except #6.

Gabe would have to wait until August 15th, 2027 to become a UFA. He's not doing that.

And no, he won't get more money by waiting. He'll get less, actually. ELC limits are set in the CBA, and whether he signs with us or goes UFA and signs somewhere else, he has to sign an ELC.

The max ELC amount might go up incrementally in a couple years, but not enough to justify waiting. He'll make significantly more money by starting his career 2 years earlier.

Leonard could choose to wait, but he won't either. Both players will sign with their respective teams when their season ends.

Does he sign here within the next few days? Does he stay one more season? Does he go to Hartford or do the Rangers sign him burn a year and keep him on the roster and actually play him as do other organizations would?

Gabriel Perreault can only be a free agent on August 15th, 2027.

I think a lot of people thought BC's elimination from Hockey East was the end of his season.
BC will receive an at large bid to the NCAA tournament and be ranked # 1 in its region. Tournament announcement is this Sunday. Round of 16 starts the following Thursday and Friday with the quarter finals next Saturday and Sunday. The final four is two weeks after that (April 10 and 12).
