So has guys like Lundell and Jarvis but they started out at wing. Even Necas is listed as a center but mainly played at wing.
Yurov has said he doesn’t like to be jerked around with his position. As I recall, Rossi never played wing. Eriksson Ek never played wing. If our goal is for Yurov to play center, then he needs to play center.

Rather have the versatility of wing for Yurov and let him focus on offense.

Kaprizov - Eriksson-Ek - Yurov
Boldy - Rossi - Boesner
Foligno - Hartman - Zuccarello
Ohgren- Gaudreau - Trenin

I wonder if trying Rossi on wing might not spur some of that offensive creativeness he had at lower levels.

He isn‘t playing that much different than he did on lower levels. He always scored his goals in tight, always set up people with simple plays. He is not and never has been a wizard, he is a worker and supporter. I doubt you would see much change in his game when moved to wing tbh.

My buddy from Ottawa watched him intently his entire junior career and said he possessed a very high hockey iq and was offensively creative. I’ve not seen anything other than a mini ek between AHL and NHL

So following the JEE, Rossi, MaratK route. Yurov will be the 4C or AHL next year?

Well that‘s the way he plays not much to say about it. And it is effective I don‘t think anyone can deny that. He played a very different powerplay position (half wall) in junior though which might factor into that „less creative“ play you attest him. Dunno for sure but I would not say he had to change his game completely due to the rigours of playing C in the NHL. That was my whole point

I think we just need to come to terms with:

Kaprizov - JEEK - Zuccarello
Boldy - Yurov - Boeser
Ohgren - Nelson - Hartman

So you bring in an expensive UFA center just to play him as the 3C behind a kid that has never seen a NHL game?

Hey Brock Nelson sign here. You'll get to play on the 3rd line with Hartman, Foligno, or Ohgren. Seems like a solid sales pitch.

I want Ohgren in the top 9 over Foligno, and I doubt they play Ohgren and Yurov together. Move people around in your head if you'd like.

My point was simply that if he didn’t have the defensive responsibility of playing C maybe a little more creativity could be unlocked. As it is it seems we are about to get rid of him for what is likely to be an underwhelming return.

So, instead of talking about a guy who won't be here till next year, and players who might never be here, how about someone(not me) organizes a playoff pool thread of some sort?

I’d do it but mods would just delete it anyways , better one of the privileged class takes the time

He needs to be better than JEE, Rossi (Nelson?), Hartman, and both of Freddy G to be the 3C. Or are we playing pander to the kid again? It's worked so well with Rossi (sent back the the AHL for another season), JEE (outmatched and religated to the 4C spot), and MaratK (fired in to sun).

For all the Yurov love on here, he wasn't even the 1C on his KHL team. He didn't have a great season either. If he wants to play center he should probably be in the AHL next year.

Hinostroza feels easy to keep as the 13th forward. He’s already signed and he’s cheap. Think he fits in as a fill-in on any line you’d throw him on. At the end of the day though, it’s the 13th forward, so it doesn’t matter much.
He’s the perfect 13th forward. Can fill in any line for any injuries. He’s got 1 more year at $775, then you give him another 2 years @ $800k. He should be in over Brazeau if for no other reason than he wont be a boat anchor for Hartman.

As for off-season, pass on Marner, buy out Zucc for the $2.7m cap savings and shoot for Boeser and Bennett.

Hartman and Gaudreau can both play wing and are not as important to the Wild's future as Yurov is. Playing him at 3C is not pandering to him. Most rookies play on the third line.

Yurov can play wing in the NHL, or go the the AHL then until he's a better player.

Just as Rossi and MaratK should have done. The best players at the position should be playing. Not the, well he might be good some so play him there for funsies.
