I was just thinking about him a few hours ago. Apart from being one of the greatest (if not the greatest) to ever play the game he was one of apparently 3 players left who had played in the Negro Leagues. I’m glad he lived long enough to see MLB recognize the Negro League stats with its own traditional stats.

RIP another legend.

The greatest baseball player who ever lived, and one of the most iconic Americans in history.

When I was doing an internship in college, I was covering the Giants and Willie was there one day and the media was all around him and he was so kind and nice to everyone. I remember this was the only time I saw professional journalists act like fans do after he left. "Best surprise, I always wanted to meet him," someone said
