I can appreciate everything he did in his career and how great of a player he was but I have to admit it is tough to overlook all of the off the ice things he did in his life.
Glass houses, just sayin.
Corson, Tucker, Domi, Probert, etc, nobody is exempt.
Trouble with mental health and addictions isn't just a problem since 2010.
From 18 he was a savior of Blackhawks, then WHA.
He played for a team that was run like the mob.

He should be remembered for it all. Nothing wrong with fans admiring his play, as long as they stick to that, all good imo

From a hockey standpoint, he was a great player. He did drive Billy Reay nuts, and he should have won more than one Cup.

From a personal standpoint, he had many faults, the worst being that he was a habitual wife abuser and at times in front of his kids. There is never, ever an excuse for that. Even the myopic Hawks organization figured out they had to cut ties with him, though way too late.

Scoring goals becomes an extremely diminished accomplishment when you're not a decent human being. If that's throwing stones at glass houses, too bad. The truth sometimes hurts.

He was my favorite player when I was 11. When I was collecting on my paper route at age 11, he answered the door and I was in shock ( he was in town visiting a local car dealer).

As has been mentioned though -- he had some faults that were tough to overlook.
