Despite a really poor start (~30 games), Smith ended the season producing almost as well as Byfield (.61 p/g vs .67 p/g) and was close to or at a point/game for a prolonged stretch to end the season. Byfield is more tools-y, but I think that Smith will ultimately become a more impactful player.

Smith is an interesting one. But I haven't seen much of him yet, and I don't put much stock in hype before a player plays NHL games.

Very good question. Smith the best offensive talent, Byfield has the most dominant physical traits and McTavish has the best all-around skillset. Coin toss for me. Smith’s scoring down the stretch may give him a slight edge here for me.

I see McTavish being a playoff dog. And Byfield having a couple random years where he puts up great stats.

I think Byfield has the highest upside on an individual level, but I can see the Sharks being a real problem in the coming years and helping Smith to put together a really nice career. I’m not high on McTavish.
