Maybe the jack 'o' lantern leading the United States shouldn't threaten the sovereignty of multiple allies. If the Russian anthem was played at NHL games, I'm sure if would've been booed several times over in recent years. Are you an American? Aren't you pissed at the US now and take it personally? But American players aren't allowed to?
Cold war my man. I watched the Summit Series as many did. "Better dead than Red", many other things as well. Did you have to do the "duck and cover" drills in school?
That was the first time ever the best of Canada played the Ruskies. USSR had won numerous WC and Olympics and Canada had been a door mat sending only amateurs.
"All In The Family" TV series was a hit. Not like anything like that can be on TV again.
Many Canuck players may have voted in the US election. Canucks have 10 US players currently and then there are the wives, how many of those? Tell them to FU too if they don't like it?
Booing the anthem is not booing their elected officials, it is booing their country.
What if they go to management en-mass and demand trades?
If the booing continues and I expect it will get worse and players, the really good one's start deciding not to play here and a lot of Canadian born players, the really good ones still have Canada in the clauses then what?
This can escalate far beyond the game and hating a person's birthplace can lead to that. Remember over half of that country voted for this guy.
Might as well kick out all the Russians as well at the same time eh? They have an Ahole running that country.
Politics and sports used to be only on country basis internationally. Countries didn't send teams to compete or international bodies banned some countries.
Maybe the answer is to eliminate anthems for awhile and just have the game.
No threats. He will just buy it. There are no foreign ownership laws in Canada. Canada will still be the same as it now only all the big businesses will be owned and controlled by Americans. He didn't even need to ask for that, Canadian politicians opened that door way back to the Diefenbaker government with Canada complying with the US demand to stop research in exchange for military protection.Maybe the jack 'o' lantern leading the United States shouldn't threaten the sovereignty of multiple allies. Number crunch time!
Booing is expressing anger at a deranged attempt to ruin the economies of both countries and take away our sovereignty. If US players take that personally, boo hoo (and boo).

Chris Pronger thinks Quinn Hughes is comparable to Alex Pietrangelo.
It is the lack of push back from anyone down there on any of his movesThe United States is showing disloyalty and contempt for a long time ally, economic partner and friend in an extraordinarily crass and flagrant way. Americans, as a nation, are responsible for this. It doesn't matter that a majority of them didn't vote for this administration. Everyone knew full well what this choice would mean and a large majority either voted for it or sat on their hands. , I have little sympathy for the feelings of individuals being hurt by hearing their anthem booed.
By "perennial Norris candidate" does he mean that in 16 NHL seasons, he's never once finished top 3 in Norris voting?
By "what they mean to their respective team" does he mean that Pietrangelo is 44 points behind his team's top scorer and Hughes is 24 points ahead of his team's second highest scorer?
Pronger definitely proving that either his takes on hockey are terrible or he just doesn't watch Hughes and is talking out if his you-know-what.
I was not old enough to vote or even care. I was still gullible and just thought what I was told to think, sort of like what the team tells the fans now.Politics shouldn't be in hockey games.
Summit series?
Politics are OK in those games because
So seems to me you don't have a problem with politics in hockey if they are politics you are personally affected by or care about. It's not politics shouldn't be in hockey, its politics I don't care about shouldn't be in hockey.
- Cold War
- We had drills in school
- Having national pride is OK because Canada sent their best for the first time
- All In The Family
The current political climate is arguably a more direct threat to Canadas existence than anything during the Cold War. Dont remember any Soviet leader directly saying they would annex Canada if they didnt meet certain demands. People have every right to take pride in being Canadian and to react to America trying to bully us in such a crass and ignoble way. You might not take it seriously, but from your own litmus test of the Cold War/climate justifying it, if people do take the threats seriously they are free to boo.
Lol except install a bunch of cyber criminal incels to dismantle the government under the guise of "reducing waste". Ask me how I know, I'm a Canadian scientist living/working in the US right now.I was not old enough to vote or even care. I was still gullible and just thought what I was told to think, sort of like what the team tells the fans now.
Just when has Trump said the words "annex"? Ya he has said they should take it over because he thinks it would be good for the country. He has even invited the country to join. But he hasn't DONE anything.
From my youth again "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me".
So far he had done nothing to Canada, everything happening now is by own own government, he actually got them to complete promises made 2 decades ago. Ever really look for what he has done? Or are you just afraid?
As far as the game of hockey, Trump is irrelevant right now.
