Quinn Hughes is having a Hart caliber season

Does Makar lead his team in scoring by over 20 pts, oh wait, he's over 20 pts behind Mackinnon and he's the favorite for Norris while Hughes gets the same disrespect Karlsson had and I don't understand why.
It's because Hughes a few years ago was bad in his own end and some people just aren't capable of shaking off a bad first impression. If the narrative that "Hughes sucks defensively" sticks around in enough people's minds, then that's what they're left with. No further update required.

You are quoting a list that has him 2nd in Norris and 4th in Hart. If you feel that is disrespect than I'd contact that Atheltic. Makar and Hughes is very even. It's like a Roy vs Hasek argument . Both sides are passionate but make no mistake there are 2 sides. My fav D is Bouch so I'm not even on either side as he wont' be winning a Norris anytime soon.lol

If you want to argue most valuable to a team then please tell me what Pastrnak has to work with this season?

21 point lead on Marchand and keeping his team in a playoff spot. He has 8 less points than the 2nd and 3rd scorer combined on his team. Leads in G, A and P's. 21 point lead on 2nd.
I'm talking about the general sentiment of those players discussed on this website which you know is a fact.

Still is. Hes sheltered to O zone starts, rare d zone starts, but only with Petey or Miller protecting him, and no PK. Hes a great offensive player, but the actual defense is very handicapped.

There is a predictions thread on here from the Athletic (I know it's just one source and things change)

You could start a who is a better dman thread between Hughes and Makar and the vote would be split pretty evenly. You'd also get the name Werenski tossed in. That would be just for the Norris. Yet Hughes is ahead for the Hart? I doubt he's top 3 when voting is done. I do love how much the Nuck's fans love their player and talk about him here though! So I'll move on and leave it at 'time will tell'. Kaprizov injury definitely helps!
This is from Jan 7th and since then Hughes has added quite a bit to his stock imo. Canucks are on a winning streak despite the drama, and Hughes has points in 7 straight games, with his last three points being multi-point games. I'd have him ahead of Makar for the Norris for sure, and probably swapped for the Hart voting. He is adding weight to his claims.

He won't be confused for the best shutdown dman in the league, but it's painfully obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about.

At ES he is pretty much on par with usage as Makar and both are about 7ish% higher than Werenski but if you want to make a big deal about it it's more on you than any indication of Quinn's value.

You are right he doesn't PK and he doesn't really hit either but if you watch him play you would see his active stick work , positioning and elite transition game and see why he is so important to the Canucks success even with those 2 forwards you mentioned missing 6 and 10 games respectively.

His defensive game is miles better than I ever hoped that it would be when the Canucks drafted him on draft day and most Dmen his size with his offensive and transition game never get to the defensive level that Quinn is at, the old and tired "he isn't good defensively has been gone since the 20-21 season and even then he wasn't as bad as people like to pretend either, that canucks team was dismal out there.

The best dman in the league...who doesnt PK. Ok then...
Datsyuk won the Selke 3 straight years despite playing very little on the PK and was 3rd three years in a row after that playing about half the limited time in his 3 Selke years I guess he sucked too eh?

Has anybody won the Hart trophy playing with 1 hand?

In all seriousness, this is a season for the history books. The way he controls the O zone and then breaks out in the D zone. The fact he can make my jaw drop and wow me every single game says alot because ive seen every single professional game he has played for the Canucks.

It sucks for people in the East Coast to be missing out on a generational career.

Hughes probably should get nominated but with how forward centric the Hart usually is, he probably won't.

Realistically if the writers had braincells it would be between MacKinnon, Hellebuyck and Hughes.

It’s hilarious that you continue to use nonsense stats you misinterpreted
Since 99.9% of this board is too lazy to look up and dissect advanced analytics and can only go off of Jfresh cards or simply offensive numbers, here you go. His defensive zone faceoffs have consistently gone down over his career and obviously when Tocchet took over, he has primarily used Quinn offensively, which is fine and I dont disagree with, but lets not pretend like hes this amazing defensemen. He is doing exactly what Karlsson did except the Canucks are not as bad as the Sharks.

Then the PK. Dude has played a total of 7:28 this season on the PK. That is a pathetic showing for a #1 dman. This dissection all started when comparing what was different last season between Hughes, Makar, Josi, Fox, Bouchard, and Hedman. All players went up in actual d zone starts and PK, while wait for it...Bouchard and Hughes went the opposite direction and no shit their offensive numbers skyrocketed while the others tapered off a bit. At least 22-23 Karlsson played some PK time pretending to play actual defense.

And like I said, I dont blame the Canucks. The offensive talent is there with him.

My friend commented exactly on this play, that Miller tried something similar in the power play ~2 minutes prior, fumbled the puck and gave up a partial breakaway.

Hughes doing Hughes thing
Girard does his spin or rama crap nightly for the Avs and Makar has broken more ankles than AI out there.

Jeez, people get so angry when there is a suggestion that someone other than a player on their team is talented.

Unclench those fists. Life feels better when you let go of the anger.

And Pasta leads the league in scoring in January.

82 game season. And remember that non playoff teams rarely get a Hart winner. And that d also rarely win the Hart.

I think it's great nucks fans love their guy. I'll be happy for you guys if he wins both. My guess is runner up for norrus and not nominated for Hart. Time will tell. Lots of season left and Vancouver is underperforming for a multitude of reasons and could have a great second half. Good luck!

he's actually not bad at the pk. it's just we have better uses for the 25 or so minutes we can get out of him per night. we're not wasting him on the pk.
I guess a testament to how deep and amazing the Canucks Dman depth is then...lol

But in all seriousness. The numbers show the other top dmen (sans Bouchard) are used all over the ice and not sheltered to strictly offensive roles. He may be a great Pker, but im more pointing out he has more offensive opportunities than his top peers. Hes making the most of them, so credit where it is due, but the other Norris nominees play actual defense also.
