Didn't realize VAN was so lacking historically in offensive D until seeing that list.

Hughes is solid obviously, but this highlights how pitiful the Canucks D core has been since the dawn of time more than how good Hughes is.

One of the main reasons it was a piss poor franchise for the first 30 years of its existence.

We've had some great D-men have great years but it took over half a century to get a slam dunk #1 D-man lol.

Im looking for these "great" D-men. This has to be the worst list of any team, especially one that is 50+ years old.

Guys like Ohlund, Edler, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Tanev (and some older ones before my time) were absolutely #2 D-men in their primes or at least had season(s) performing at that level.

I would classify D-men that could perform well in a top pairing role as "great players", but again we've never had anyone elite.

We would have to stack it up against the other franchises and see where this would rank. It may not be as bad as it looks.

I've generally thought of Vancouver as having some pretty good dmen in their history but not much, if any of the superstar variety.

When you think of their alumni which get the most accolades, it's forward dominated, and on thay front they do have some decent star power.

Their history isn’t spectacular for defense but that’s still impressive as hell for Hughes. He’s well on his way to being the best defenseman and one of the best players in franchise history

If he plays his entire career in Vancouver he will prob go down as #1. Still gotta beat the Sedins though . Both Sedins have a Art Ross and Henrik has a Hart.

to put hughes into perspective, by christmas he probably will have more assists than any canuck dman other than edler has pts (including ohlund, who he will have played in just over half the games of)
