Speculation: Quinn Hughes acceptable trade packages

Yeah, I don't think QH's next contract is as much about money and term as it is about legacy. Don't be fooled by his quiet demeanor... I think he wants to prove he is great enough to be THE reason his team wins the Cup.
Honestly nobody knows what he thinks or wants. Everything is speculation .

Maybe he only wants to win? Maybe he wants to play with his Brothers? Maybe he is happy playing In Canada and being a team Captain? Maybe all he wants is money? Who knows.

There is a 0% chance he gets traded in the next 12 months.

The only way he’s traded is if in 2026 he makes it clear that he has no intent of re-signing past 2027.
And if the Canucks are still stuck in the 'mushy middle' of the NHL then, with no realistic path of competing for a Cup, then what?

Hughes will be 27 and in the prime of his career. If he concludes he'll never get his named etched on the Cup in Vancouver, then what?

His future in Vancouver isn't on him. It's on Rutherford and Allvin. And the clock is ticking on them, big time.

it will be 3 team blockbuster trade that will bring Bedard or Celebrini home

I'm sure that a lot of Canuck fans at one time said the same thing about Horvat and Miller--particularly when the latter signed that eight-year contract. And before that, Bure, Linden and Naslund.

But the decision on whether Hughes stays or goes--won't be made by the Canuck front office. It'll be Hughes' decision, as it should be.

He's already proven almost everything there is to prove as a player--one of the best d-men ever to put on on an NHL jersey. At this point in his career, it's all about winning and a Stanley Cup.

And after this dismal season, if the Canucks don't get a lot better and in a big hurry, he's as good as gone at the end of 2026-27 season. That's just the way it is.

Obviously the Canucks would never be in a position to just let Hughes walk. It would cripple the franchise for a decade. So speculation on what the Canucks could reasonably expect back--is not being 'hyperbolic' or 'disloyal' in any way.

It's just the 'business' of the NHL.

Completely different situations with Horvat.............we had Miller and didn't want to pay Horvat as well and needed to get assets for that rhd.

I agree this will be Hughes decision obviously...........and he strikes me as a great AND loyal guy. I also have a pretty high degree of faith in our management team now. Much like last year everything fell our way this year was the complete opposite. To note that we are still even talking about playoffs at this point is a miracle.

Things can change in a hurry - just weeks ago we were bemoaning our D - and now it's a strength. We have options to improve the team and if there's one thing management has shown is that they are always trying to make the team better. Yes a lot of Hughes staying will ride on how things go with the team the next couple of seasons however I am pretty optimistic. For the first time in forever we have some solid prospects and 2 young stud D.........A free agent signing and a good trade and we are back to where we were or better last year.

Nope......he's not going anywhere......I will die on this hill.

Try reading the whole post.

Once again, players like this do not get traded in the NHL.

But they do get traded in the NBA. The return is usually a handful of first round picks and A+ prospects.

For example, look at the 2019 trade that sent Paul George to the Clippers. George was a top 10 player but arguably not at the same stature as Quinn is right now.

The return was Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, 5 first round picks, and two first round pick swaps.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is now ranked as a top 2 player in the NBA and is just 25. They use one of their picks to draft another All Star level player in Jalen Williams, who is still just 23.

OKC is now the best team in the league AND they still have 2 first round picks plus a swap remaining from that trade.

If Hughes somehow did end up getting traded, the return should set the Canucks up to be a contender within the next 5 years or it's just not worth it.

This might sound like sacrilege to some......but it's actually easier to build out a solid blueline than it is to find someone like a Crosby, McDavid, Matthews or McKinnon up front.

You look around the league, and there's a lot of contending teams who don't have anyone like Hughes on their blueline. He's a unicorn.

So an eventual trade bringing back someone like Bedard or Cellebrini isn't the stuff of fantasy or disrespect to Hughes in any way. Nor would securing a bunch of of high draft picks--if the Canucks are still floundering by the end of the 2027 season.

Covering your eyes and ears and shutting down this threat, isn't going to make it go away-- until Hughes either re-signs here, or tells the team he wants to move on.

The time to discuss this topic is next summer, if no extension is agreed upon. Hughes is 100% not being traded now.

Things change a lot in 12 months so whatever "acceptable package" discuss now will likely not be relevant next year, so it doesn't make much sense to talk about it now. Re-open the thread next June/July if necessary.

Nope.

He's retiring a Canuck and will lead us to our first cup.

Quinn Hughes is the type to carve out his own path and legacy, he has the opportunity to become a legend in Vancouver and he strikes me as the type to want to become that legend.

Please for the love of God be right.

Staal brothers, only Eric played with all of his bros in car and NY.

But honestly, it’s a 25.5% chance of worst team getting the top pick. 1/4 shot. And if you miss out then what?

So, you do everything you can to win with the talent of a Hughes. If it doesn’t work out after next season, consider it then. Not now.

Yeah, probably not....but who cares? Are we closing it because people are triggered by the thought of it? If the thread isn't your cup of tea, move on...let people interested in the topic discuss, as folly as it is. If people can discuss things like adults, then it should be open for discussion....if the topic has no merit it will fall away on its own.

Yesssss.

Its the only way to rebuild the franchise, shed the stale core, avoid the longterm ramifications of a potential Boeser and/or Demko extension, and the Ep40 one were already on deck for.

Its embarassing that we will, are currently are, wasting a talent and a leader like Quinn Hughes but the Vancouver Canucks orginization and a future Stanley Cup comes first.

Every team has a package of assets we would use to reshape the entire orginization top to bottom but i'll point out the obvious one with my take on it..

NJD.

Literally have nothing we need today to trade for Quinn to unite all 3 brothers, and someone made a comment on main boards how Quinn might not want to take away the #1D spot for Luke in the future, but they have EVERYTHING we need as trade bait.

I dont see them trading the captain, so he's off the table.

But Dougie Hamilton's contract has to be included, with a reflip already lined up. I dont know the value of a reflip Dougie but i'll put it at a late 1st or a Kotkaniemi type FWD in return.

Simon Nemec. Former 2nd overall RHD. We could then flip our own Hronek, or peddle Nemec to any of the 30 NHL teams that need a stud RHD. Buffalo or Nashville especially.

Seamus Casey. Former 2nd rounder. We could keep him to be our Huggy lite replacement, or flip him for the immense value a young offensive RHD would command.

Dawson Mercer. Everything we dont need at forward. Soft, slow, bad at faceoffs, but does PK a bit. But young enough and RHS enough to have value as a mid 20's twenty goal man leaguewide.

Anton Silayev. Again we dont need him ourselves but having the ability to shop a medly of young dmen, while not including Dpetey or Willander in the bunch would be a blessing. Or keep him and run a Dpetey - Silayev left side and crush everybody.

NJD 2026 1st. Just a given theyd need to add this.

Mercer, Hamilton, Nemec, Casey, Silayev, 2026 1st.

Maybe not a single one plays a game for Vancouver but each one should have great value leaguewide on their own.

Canucks add whatever is needed to recieve back all 6 pieces.

Bedard and Celebrini aren't realistic options. They are on teams that don't fit with a Quinn Hughes timeline. Also, Bedard isn't really tracking all that well...
