Starting with Dubois:
Just watched some of his interview with Dreger... When a player speaks about his life/family, career related like he did, I feel the guy wants it close to home... Chances could be favorable that he sign in MTL. Cap space is freeing up shortly and TDL *could* be favorable for the habs this year.

Kent is smart and he already let everyone have an appealing taste for the future of this team. Suz, CC, Slaf, +Ghule, etc.

Next Top 3 of the draft will be sick like we all know and Bedard could very well land in MTL with a bit of luck.

Could it be possible to switch it in the fast lane for Kent in the next year or so?

Bedard(or another top 3)/Suzuki/Dubois/Caufield/Slafkovsky... Holy Sh..

What could work for you in a quicker rebuild? These rebuild looks more and more possible with some smarts these days.

Its already a forgone conclusion imo
ive never felt better about a player situation than i have with this

we wont even wait for him to sign , im 100% convinced Kent pulls the trigger next summer even, coupled with another top 10 (hopefully top5) pick , and yeah, the rebuild will be somewhat "finished" as early was next years training camp

They havent been saying "accelerated rebuild" all this time for nothing
Look at the pieces we have already

They need the defensive prospects to take a major step forward as well as finding a true #1 goalie before they can accelerate a rebuild. The starting goalie can be found through free agency but they can’t rebuild the whole defence that way. They need to be patient and let Guhle, Barron, and Harris develop.

The rebuild will take some time, probably a few years before they can compete again for a playoff spot.

In terms of what we have in our system + high pick this year + Dubois, yes.

Our forward group will be excellent

On defense, there's no guarantee that one of our D prospects will become a #1, but we do have guys with that potential (Guhle, Mailloux, Hutson). At worst, we can get 4 quality top 4 dman in Guhle/Mailloux/Hutson/Harris/Xhekaj/Barron/Struble/Ufa signing/trade. If Chychrun is still available next summer, we should try to get him.

Goaltending is the biggest question mark. Have to hope Allen can do the job or Primeau/Dobes can become #1D. If not, we need to sign a number 1 from free agency or make a trade.

The duration of our rebuild will depend on how quickly our prospects can become good. The potential for a quick rebuild is there.

I'd like to add a first pairing right D and true offensive center this year. Either draft Allen and trade for an offensive player like last year in Debrinkat or Fiala. Or other way around, draft in top 3 in draft and trade for top defenseman

People really need to forget Dubois lol
I get you think it's a pipedream, I really do, as they usually always are.

But not this time, this is just TOO much smoke in this case I'm sorry,
This guy actually WANTS the fire.

Part of the reasoning IS because of the rebuild tho, I think he sees what's going on over here and I truly believe he wants to be apart of it, and views himself as a great asset to the team to get us into contention again

As for the goalie stuff, yes of course you need a good one
But the "omg need a TRUE #1 goalie" stuff, in this day and age? You can get by with a top 15 goalie really, provided all your other pieces are that good tho obviously
Love what we're building down the middle

Obviously getting Bedard would accelerate a rebuild big time, he is going to be a star player pretty quick. Dubois would be nice, but you would need to liberate the cap space, wouldn't change our team all that much.

Enough with PLD. He’s not a winner and he’s overrated only in Montreal
Elaborate

Just wondering what you REALLY know about this player and what makes him "not a winner"

Also a few questions....

He's overrated how exactly?

And.....Just wondering how you know he's only apparently overrated in Montreal? I reckon you've been extensively creeping HF Forums for all 32 teams?

You just seem so confident in your statement, I'm curious.

I think it’s imaginary ‘’smoke’’ sometimes it takes very little to become a bigger thing here.

Why does everyone want a quick rebuild? Why is the question never ''what is the best rebuild'' but rather ''what is the quickest way to rebuild''?
Buffalo and Arizona’s perpetual failures and Ottawa’s cycle of fail and Toronto’s never-success scare a lot of people, including myself.

I want to see a cup win before all my hair turns white. Perpetual rebuilds don’t really exist… the whole point is to accumulate high performing players and win playoff rounds. If they do it quickly that’s great.

Earlier this summer, before the draft, we had very engaging back and forths about this topic. I argued the Habs should sign UFAs and “go for it” starting this coming offseason. My tune hasn’t changed but it really does depend on the pieces we don’t have: if Suzuki remains a 60pt C then we don’t have a 1C, we definitely don’t have a 1D or a 1G, etc.

Define a core and identify who belongs there (or is tracking to belong there). If we’re close or far is what matters.

The management is doing a quick rebuild...

Not an answer to my question.

This is the thing. The goal ought to be to build a core of players who have a credible chance to win the cup. Not to get right back into the playoff hunt after 1 year of being bad, GMs hate this one little trick, yadda yadda yadda.

That takes as long as it takes, and while there is definitely such a thing as taking too long (and thus requiring another rebuild), the goal has to be the sufficient accumulation of elite talent, not what can we scrape together in a year. While not entirely incompatible, those are two distinct goals.
