Of course they would.. that’s a piss poor offer. Calgary doesn’t even return the phone call.
Out of curiosity, If Jvr, frost, and a 1st would is a piss poor offer. What would be an acceptable one from the flyers?

Well for starters take out the 7M dollar healthy scratch, and replace him with a Sanheim or Myers.

I know that would make things difficult/impossible cap wise but JVR is a cap dump and makes that deal a total non starter for Calgary. He would be the highest paid player in our organization, and stylistically he is not a fit with Monahan and Tkachuk already in the top six.

What happened to want to trade Monahan, other than he had a down year this past season ? Also hearing Gaudreau negativity, buy why ?

Playoff performances. It's a bit of an overreaction, but you can certainly see why. Lots of guys struggled in the playoffs until they suddenly didn't.

Find it hard to believe Flames would do better by trading these guys, but I do not follow the team.

Depends on the return I guess. If you can move Gaudreau for futures, sign Hall and then move Monahan and those futures for a better centerman then you're probably ahead.

He plays a position of weakness for the Flames and trading him is one of the few players it makes sense to some to trade to fill that weakness.

Also, some like to point out the stats that seem to show that he is a product of his linemate and becomes a more disappointing player away from Gaudreau

Hall will not sign unless he will have a real good centreman. So basically you are offering Gaudreau and Monahan for a centre. Well that would make the sports news if a deal like that went down. If the Habs had a centre worth the combined value of those 2, no chance I would move him though.

Behind you, look out
From Ottawa:

Monahan for islanders 1st, Logan Brown, Maxime Lajoie.

Logan Brown is a 6'6 centre former 11th overall that is NHL ready.
Lajoie is one of higher D prospects that showed he can play in the NHL now. He is an offensive defenseman and is from Calgary.
The islanders 1st is a 1st.

Also, Ottawa is taking 6M off your cap with no money going back.

Rumor has Calgary as his top choice. I'm sure there are lots of factors, but the draw of home is a fairly big one.

Vegas is his home...
It's been well documented he considers his hometown Calgary. There's dozens of news articles about him wanting to come to Calgary. He grew up in Calgary, was a Flames fan and maintains a home in the city right beside where Eberle lives.

I'm still trying to figure out the logic in wanting to trade Monahan in the first place. JG, I get.
It is because he is a low end #1 center and not a high end #1 and some Flames fans treat him like he is actually a #3 center. Makes zero sense to trade him unless Gaudreau is flipped for a top 6 center. Even then I would keep him and toss him on the wing.

Only reason I want to trade Gaudreau is because he will likely leave via FA and the Flames have Tkachuk to take over his spot as #1LW. Also small chance the Flames can sign Hall.

Not legit rumors from Montreal

Domi Poehling 1st 2020 (16th pick) for Gaudreau
Even though not legit, still don't know if I like it from the Flames perspective but I don't hate it. Probably means it is close. Downgrade in the player but pick up a mid-first. Not sure if Poehling is needed. Seems like a throw in just to make room on contracts.

I doubt Gaudreau is flipped for a top 6 center when he’s going to free agency, like you say. There really isn’t any scenario where trading ShMo makes sense to me.

Monahan is not a play driving centre, and is seen as reliant on Johnny for offensive output (especially entering the zone and creating chances). Defensively he’s mediocre and nothing to write home about, he lacks intensity in the sense that he isn’t physical or noticeably fast. Pretty much he is a lukewarm 2C type. Not a bad player at all, just someone I think the fans have associated with the mediocre nature this team has taken upon itself.

It’ll be an interesting off season for the Flames, that’s for sure.

I wouldn't miss Monahan too much. Except in the dot. He's a good faceoff guy, especially on the PP.

as habs fan, i'm not happy about this. C's are hard to acquire and while Domi has his issues, he's a top 2 who with good wingers can provide grit and 70 pts. Poehling is no throw-in. He's another C, who's a 1st rounder, 21, but suddenly finds himself behind a deep young C crew in montreal. There's no room for him in top 3 and Jake Evans took his job on the 4th line. So flames get two, young C's + a 1st in a deep draft? I like gaudreau, but it's adding another little guy to a smallish forward group..and for only 2 years.
