Question: What happens to players if an NHL team folds?

But they didn't file bankruptcy to fold and cease operations. It was a whole other can of worms
Sure it was. But that doesn't mean the league hasn't supported it's troubled members for the past 20 years.

I mean, how many franchises have been hanging on by a thread, filed bankruptcy or required payments in order to survive, and none have folded? Off the top of my head, I'd say about half.

I have to side with Tadite here - the NHL won't let a franchise fold these days, unless there truly is no other option. Heck, New Orleans was pretty much destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and the NFL and NBA temporarily relocated teams until their homes were refurbished.

for those who recall

the last time we had this discussion was after the horrible plan crash in Russia and what would the nhl if that happened in the nhl and during then discussion it came up that the NHL has in place plans for stuff like that and if a team folds and they can not find a place for that team to play. The idea briefly came into play when the thrashers were without a home for about 24 hours while every sorted everything out(for those who recall the new Atlanta owners only wanted the basketball team and told the NHL they no longer wanted the thrasher and that they would not play in their arena)
