I was having a discussion in a thread I made about the 1992-93 season;

A question that came up was why Brett Hull's goals scoring dropped off that season compared to his previous 3 years. I know the obvious answer would be the Adam Oates trade for Craig Janney. But while Janney was no Oates he seemed to be doing a reasonably well job of filling in for Oates considering Hulls goal scoring rate only dropped off slightly after the trade.

From going through Hull's scoring logs while Janny was on the team it seemed like the two were linemates in 1991-92 but not in 1992-93 where Janny was instead paired up with Shanahan.

Just wanted to ask if this is accurate and if so what was the reason for splitting Janney and Hull up? Was there a lack of chemistry between the two, or was it to perhaps spread the scoring out more? I see the Blues had a coaching change early in the 1992-93 season and started the season off slowly, was that the motivation for the change? And lastly who exactly were Hull's primary linemates in 1992-93? Appreciate any feed back on the matter.

Shanahan - Janney- Emerson were a line.

Green Beret line was Lowry - Bassen - Rich Sutter. Rich played 84 while Lowry and Bassen only played 50 something games each. Awesome checking line.

Ron Sutter was Hull's primary center but only played with Hull for 59 of Hull's 80 games that year. If I recall correctly Ron Wilson filled in while Ron Sutter was injured. LW was a revolving door but Kevin Miller played some on this line.

Korolev and Prokhorov played with Karamnov on a line. I remember Prokhorov scoring a hat trick on Halloween that season.

Multiple reasons that Hull wasn't with Janney. First off Hull didn't need an elite passer to score goals. Shanahan really didn't either but Hull could go out there with scrubs and still produce. His shot was like the Death Stars' main weapon. He had a couple of 20 something point centers and put up 101 points in 80 games. 54 goals in 80 games. Brett Hull was a bad, bad man. He once did 50 goals inside of 50 games. No seriously look it up.

So obviously they were just spreading the scoring out putting Hull with scrubs.

Logan Brown's dad Jeff Brown had his best season as a Blue that year scoring 25 goals and 78 points, earned his first All Star appearance.

Hull had special chemistry with Oates. He never really had that with Janney. They were fine, but Shanahan had much better chemistry with Janney (and apparently even more so with Janney’s wife).
also remember that Hull never seemed to click with Janney.
but that Million/Million/Minimum line sure did

also remember watching Hull with Wilson as his center and thinking wtf.. basically put an elite sniper on a 4th line
