I was trying to find comparable for David Reinbacher and Mattias Ohlund is the name that came to mind.

Can a Nucks fan give me a scouting report on Ohlund?

Thank you.

David is listed at 6’3 207 lbs. needs about 10 more lbs to get to ohlund’s weight to throw the body around. Can hope he’s as solid as Ohlund was over his career. Big minute muncher. Without the eye injury likely more offensive but the reduced vision probably kept him more defensively responsible vs attack as much.

Ohlund was a mean player to play against that made everyone regret coming near him. Was pretty much the prototypical two-way #2 that was actually a #1. Criminally underrated by the rest of the league for his entire career. Pretty much did everything right without putting a wrong foot forward while leading the team in ice time every night. Was used on the powerplay, since two-defencemen PPs were still common when he played, but wasn't dynamic offensively.

I haven't watched Reinbacher since his draft year so I don't know if he's developed that edge. That was really a defining trait of Ohlund.

Tangentially related, but at 6'3 209 and a heavy hitter, I am quite gunshy to move D-petey because I think he could play a very similar game to Ohlund once he matures, even if he has a lower ceiling.

Guy got matched up against Iggy, the premier Power forward at both their primes (since they were drafted a year apart). So, that would be like matching up vs Brady T. (though Iggy is the better player). which might not be fair since there is like a 5 year age gap or something.

Ohlund was a physical beast who was one of the strongest/meanest high-leverage, high-minute matchup defenders in the NHL.

I like Reinbacher and think he'll be a quality NHL defender but I don't think he quite has that elite level of physicality/defensive play in any sort of projection for him.

Ohlund was an animal. f***ing up his eye diminised him a little and we could have used someone like him in the 2011 run. He leveled the boston rat with an open ice hit in the semi finals.

Sadly at some point while in TB his knee got messed up. Don’t recall the year. Lost some Offense after the eye injury. Otherwise, could have added like 15 or more points per year.

Ohlund was criminally underrated league-wide because he doesn't put up elite offensive number, but he was a rock defensively. Jovo got the headlines/spotlights during the WCE era, but I always thought Ohlund was the more important player. The eye injury was devastating, he still had a really great career as is, but he could've been even more.

If Reinbacher can be anywhere near what peak Ohlund was, Montreal will be a powerhouse with their F core + Hutson.

Basically a thicker meaner Ekholm (885 PMs) and would have been better even offensively if he hadn't lost vision in his eye after a horrific accident which changed him to primarily a shut down D. Made for some bad passes from time to time because of it but he persevered and was an anchor core piece. Could play huge minutes with ease. Human eraser and when he hit it hurt

Funny story about Ohlund. Went to a Boxing Day game against the Flames and i swear to this day he was drunk. Was always so consistent and reliable but in this one he was stumbling in the warm up and was comically bad in the game tripping over his own feet. Never ever seen him play like that any other time....Players are human beings think he had some extra cheer with the family a little too close to game time. Flames didn't even really take advantage of him and he ended up ok in the stat line from what i remember but had some hilarious clueless pinches and drifting moments to nowhereville....anyway me and a buddy were laughing at the time but he still was ok in the end...what a friggen stud

Reinbacher needs about 25-30lbs of thick powerful muscle before he has the same build and in all honesty outside of before the draft i haven't seen much of him....thought he was a bit lanky. Guhle actually has some Ohlund in him but he's not that good yet nor as strong

Swedish Adam Foote is what I can think of. Adam Foote being one of the best shut down dmans when he was an active NHLer. Shut down DMAN. Ohlund was a Shutdown dman for us, that can also play some offence.
