Its not like I wouldnt support Quebec anyway. I always liked the Team Canada. I even caught flack from my friends about it, because I loved Canada so much. There is a big "Canada sucks" thing in the USA, if you didnt know already.

I wont support the USA in international competition. I love my country to death, but in competition, I believe my ethnicity comes first.

I havent seen any injury in hockey as viciously blatant as Moore's since that guy hit Gordon Bombay's knee in the Mighty Ducks movies.

I dont know what I would do in that situation. I probably would stay put. As I said, I feel more ethnically Quebecoise than Canadian. It just dosent feel right to support a player that injured a player that I really liked.

If I saw bertuzzi on the street, I would probably give him a punch, but he would see me do it to him. I am not a coward like him. Team Canada should have done the right thing and not kept him on the team. I have no respect for him.

I will not ditch Slovakia if someone does something stupid. Why? Because I dont think anyone is at the level that Bertuzzi is to hit someone like that.

I think you're searching for justification to support just about anybody but Team Canada, especially in light of your recent reading on the slight upswell in the support of soverignty. Your standards of gentlemanliness on the ice clearly don't apply to guys you happen to like. And I hope the decisions of proper Quebecois regarding soverignty involve more than romantic notions of "ethnicity".

I would hasten to add that the Team Canada roster has yet to be decided! Bertuzzi could very well not make the team!! Will you then cheer for Team Canada again?

I am of French Canadian descent, and I will no longer support the Canadian National Team as long as Bertuzzi is on it. I never liked him, but after what he did to Steve Moore (a player I particularly liked, being able to watch the Avalanche frequently) I cannot support a country that lets a man like him represent it.

Obviously, this is not why I want Quebec to break away..I have my own reasons for wanting that, I would just love to be able to support a Quebec-only team.

I have known about soveriegnty in Quebec since the 90s. It hasnt changed for me. When I went up to Montreal in 2003. I really got into the whole pro-soveriegnty thing. Im not looking for a reason to leave Canada out to dry.

And if Bertuzzi is not on the team, then yes I will support them.


But I am not convinced he will be left off.

How do you like the Avalanche with whats his name that used to be head coach and now is assistant? He was one of the dirtiest players in the league in his time, and twice got the maximum 15 game suspension, but you don't like Bertuzzi?

Don't judge a whole team by 1 guy, I'm sure there are a lot of people that could potentially play for the Quebec team that don't have spotless records.

Either way, I hope that Quebec doesn't seperate, because I'm proud to call myself Canadians alongside them.

Todd Bertuzzi is still one of the best Canadian wingers in the world. I don't care what your feelings about him are, but if you like seeing Canada win, you can't justify wanting Bertuzzi off the team.

I'd rather have Bertuzzi than nearly any other winger in the NHL.

Bertuzzi on big ice aint as effective (seen in various WC's). Hes better suited for the smaller rinks than the big rinks.

Some Slovak players did play for more than one country: Czechoslovakia then Slovakia. Same goes for Czechs. Or Slovenians. Again, why would it be any different if it's Quebec ?

The Lecavaliers are eligible to play for Canada only as long as they are Canadian citizens.

Well,if you feel more ethnically attached to Quebec then that's your call and your decision.however,there is no team Quebec in Torino that i can recall so you are telling me that you feel more ethnically attached to Slovakia in a Team Quebec's absense? You're selling here but i'm still not buying.

Yes, I am part Slovakian (Italian, Quebecois, Slovakian, Lithuanian, and English) Alot I know, but whatever. I believe I did mention that I was, and if I didnt, now I have. I would not go all out for a team that I do not have an ethnic relation to.

I hope I cleared up some stuff by saying that. I will watch the Italians and hope they do well, but I dont expect much at all from the Azzurri.

I dont support the USA in international competition. I hope they do well, but I wont be waving my flag, or decked out in USA apparel. It seems too cliche for me to do. I like it when people support their heritage. America is so vast in scope when it comes to heritage. That is why.

And alot of the people I talk to who support Team USA are very pompous. "USA uberalles in everything". I hate that.

Vallieres was the spokesman and lead idealogue of the group, but yes, his hands are not clean.

Listen, I am in no way endorsing the FLQ. I grew up in Westmount. One of the mailboxes in front of my elementary school was bombed. You must understand though, that circumstances surrounding the October Crisis are ugly on all sides. Many members of the FLQ were socialist patriots who got swept up in events specific to that era. Think for example of the Weather Underground, the Black Panthers, etc...

I found myself at that bar that night purely by chance and, if you really want to know, defended Canadian unity (in French) to a less than receptive crowd.

The FLQ was an amateur organisation that yearned to be a big player on the revolutionary map, and many of its members were disgusted and shocked by the murder of Pierre Laporte.

My onetime drinking companions were self-imagined patriots who ended up behaving like terrorists. I find that abhorrent. But I would still follow my curiosity if such an occasion presented itself again (and I haven't even told you about the time I sat in on a meeting with one of Osama bin Laden's brothers!).
