Think Canada would play USA in semis yeah? Bracket set up so group winners don’t play their own 2 seed in the semis.

Did they switch to a re-seed at some point?

They get reseeded for the semifinals. Top seeds will get the worse teams.

#1 Sweden can get (🇨🇭,🇸🇰,🇨🇿,🇨🇦).

#2 USA can get (🇱🇻,🇫🇮,🇨🇿,🇨🇦)

#3 Finland can get (🇱🇻,🇺🇲,🇨🇿,🇨🇦)

#4 Czechia/#5 Canada can get (🇱🇻,🇸🇰,🇫🇮,🇸🇪,🇺🇲)

You won't like them

Canada vs Czechs is 50-50
Sweden vs Latvia is 55-45 if Osmonis is back and 70-30 if he isn't
US vs Switzerland is 60-40
Slovakia vs Finland is 45-55

My predictions

Czechs, Swedes, US and Slovaks

Yes I have a bias
No, I didn't use any advanced stats
I used my gut and regret nothing!
Lol now back to reality..

Canada vs Czech 65-35
US VS Switzerland 95-5
Sweden vs Latvia 80-20
Slovakia vs Finland 25-75

I predict Canada, Sweden, Finland, USA will advance to the semifinals.
Crazy. You really went out on a limb here picking all the heavy favorites....

Sweden vs Latvia 90-10
USA vs Sui 90-10
Finland vs Slovakia 65-35
According to the Slovaks' performance so far, it should also be 90/10, but the Slovaks usually show a solid performance at least once, it could be a more balanced match than it looks now
Canada vs Czech Republic 80-20
We are playing well at the championship, but Canada has the match they were waiting for. They haven't been doing very well so far, but they will play against an opponent they have beaten in a friendly match, they are historically extremely strong at home and still want revenge for last year.

Odds in percentage: Sweden-Latvia 98-2
USA-Swiss 95-5
Finland-Slovakia 55-45
Canada-Czechia 60-40

Results:
Sweden-Latvia, 6-1 without Osmanis. 5-2 if he plays.
USA-Swiss, 7-3.
Finland- Slovakia, 2-3.
Canada- Czechia, 5-3.

Latvia have been really good with this young team. But before the tournament I thought Sweden would win the gold. They've not helped me to change my mind lol. So not taking anything away from Latvia, the Sweden team is really good and what makes me believe they are as solid as you can be against any underdogs are because of their overpowering D's. Which makes them play with confidence and they look really secure and convinced.

The US... Clearly vey talented but something feels strange with this years team. They are confident and they want to win but sometimes they act like individuals in someway, or their attitude in someway. One of them are actually their captain Leonard.
Augustine is a known goalie but so far Rimpinen is this tournaments best goalie followed by Swedens goalies and Hrabal.

Dvorsky... I have a bad feeling Finland will take dumb penalties and the Slovaks have some top skill giving them the chance to score in PP and take the win. Both their C and both A's are leaders for me.
Slovakia has decent goalies as well and should have one good game in them.
Have a feeling Lendak will be the one tonight.
If Finland can keep it cool mentally, play compact as a team and Helenius, Kiiskinen and others can follow the upwards pointing form and not take stupid penalties? They should have the depth to win but I'm not sure they will make it tonight.

Bad spot for the Czechs. Canada destroyed Finland and have showed they can perform. Underperformed later on which I think can be good for them. Humbled, therefor not massive favorites like usually and that will only benefit them.
Czechs need to keep it tight in the beginning because I have a feeling Canadians will come out flying. Can Hrabal stop McKenna? Will be a good game!

Considering they are shooting 5% while these same players with their clubs shoot 15%? For any analytics fans out there, that is an unsustainably low shooting %. The reality is that while we did leave some good talent back home, we still brought a bunch of talented guys that are capable scorers. It's been surprising to see them struggle this much. Yeah, maybe they'll struggle one more game and then be out, but I also wouldn't be surprised for the law of averages to rear it's head and see us suddenly fill the net.

Super low percentage shots. The quality chances are just no there for this team. 40 plus shots and about 10 are quality chances.

You did not account for overround.

The actual implied odds in the betting market are:
Sweden vs. Latvia 93%-7%
USA vs. Switzerland 94%-6%
Slovakia vs. Finland 20%-80%
Canada vs. Czechia 76%-24%

I think the market is way off on Switzerland, as they have a deep team with good offensive skill that is perfectly capable of scoring multiple goals on the US, which has had defensive lapses each game. I'd say they eaaily have a 1 in 5 chance of winning.

The rest of the odds are more or less spot on.

Surprised how many blowouts people expect today. Maybe they will all be blowouts but I expect some tight games.

Time will tell. There is always an upser. 4 seeds beating 1 seeds is not uncommon.

I think the Swiss can possibly give the U.S a run if they stay disciplined defensively and with penalties.

I hope so anyway, would like to see some drama today.

Slovakia / Finland and Czechia / Canada both have the opportunity to be very tight games.

But I don't think Latvia matches up very well vs Sweden's possession style. They succeeded vs Canada because Canada opted to throw pucks on net from everywhere instead of trying to hold onto pucks and create high danger chances.

I would be very surprised if it's less than a 3 goal victory for Sweden.

Similarly, USA is a tougher matchup for Switzerland, who rely on their speed to generate offense off the forecheck. I don't see that panning out vs the best skating team in the tournament. The Swiss are also pretty poor defensively this year, while being the smallest team in the tournament. I think the US speed and skill up front is going to overwhelm them.

The Swiss could very well score 2-3 goals. But considering the Czechs and Swedes dropped a combined 12 goals against them, and the US has more offensive weapons than either, I think it's pretty unlikely the US score less than 4 goals.

And with Augustine seemingly finding his groove, the Swiss getting shutout seems just as likely as a multi-goal effort.
