That missed call on the first goal took some of the fun out of the game for me. Big props to all the Latvians here for not raging about it, instead focusing on the great effort by their team and on future glory. Congrats on a great tourney.

Our goalie sucks
Cheer up! It will all be over soon. Just two more days.

Because Latvia was very good this year with great goalie. Let’s not pretend this game wouldn’t have gone to overtime if the refs had done their job and not missed the blatant interference by a Swedish player on the first goal.

How did your country go 2-12 in gold medal games at the world juniors?

Why are Swedish people acting like beat Latvia by 5? It was a one goal game no?
Imagine thinking something happening in the first period effectively would have meant it would have been a tie game if the decision would have been different back then. Simpleton. It doesn't work like that. If you are going to bring that up, it might be worth bringing up that it took the refs 10 minutes to call a clear offside goal? It clearly shifted the momentum in Latvias favour.

But unlike Canada, Sweden could shut down Latvia even when they were chasing the game by the odd goal. Latvia had what, 2 shots in the 3rd period? Thelin was the only reason the game was close on the score board.

But imagine talking so much rubbish like you have been doing, when you are cheering for one of the worst canadian teams in modern time, while also being a cougars fan - a poor excuse of a franchise that has never ever won anything. Your franchise has never even made a final? 😂 But maybe that's why you can spot a loser when you see one.. You should be the last person on this board giving it to Sweden for their lack of tournament wins.

😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢(20, count em)
Sorry you feel that way pal, Canada does suck this year! Should’ve taken more WHL guys and less diva OHL players.
But who are the reds and how do they help Canada?

20 golds taken with cheating. Congratulations.

Canada sucked last year too. Got kicked out in the qf. While we reached final.

It might be a worry with Murnieks, although it does confuse me how little attention he's getting. There's literally only a few players who have done something similar at the World Juniors at his age.
He doesn't have same numbers as Girgensons at this age in USHL, still is good but not point per game as Girgensons was. Then again they talked about Girgensons as top 5 pick back then and we saw that Zemgus peaked early...he is still in NHL and has been solid for years but sadly not in the role we hoped to see him.
Anyway as it was said, U18 is still coming for him and next year's Juniors. And he plays in a good league with direct shot to NCAA or depends how good he manages to be. All depends on him. All four our 16 year olds are at good level for their development needs, all depends on them what they can show.

Of course Latvia had a great goalie this year but we played Canada, Finland, USA and Sweden, all top 4 and only one team scored more than 3 goals vs us. So after game vs Canada I thought it was just a fluke and some miracle on ice on steroids but not really. If the opponent would come out unprepared, all could happen... Shoddy defending from Canada, shoddy goaltending from Sweden and we have or almost have a chance of tie after 3 periods. And then who knows. The team had some quality like usually there is a stretch of a few minutes where team Latvia gives up 3 or 4 goals and game is over. Today's USA - Swiss also a similar story. But in no game Latvia allowed to be demoralised by several goals in quick succession. USA and Finland just played more solid game vs us. Canada and Sweden allowed for moments of weakness.

You already read it but realized what a clown you look like. PG Cougars, 0 finals, 0 cups. I wish i could counter with something else that Canada are known for, but unfortunately all you got is hockey.
I know you had to google to find that out! Good job, you are learning today.

How many times has PG been to the conference finals?

No 🤣

Just thought you would like to learn some more about the Cougars. As a Swede you should know what it’s like to cheer for a team even if they don’t win.
Except Sweden have won before, and reached a final as late as last year. Your franchise has never done that. That's just facts, i don't celebrate 2nd. But seems like you do. Considering you were just trying to brag about some weak semi-final record, which you barely reach

I was trying to encourage you learning more about the Cougars since you took such an interest in them. Here’s another question that you might be able to comprehend, I realize the other one might’ve been a bit tough!

Who is the Cougars all-time leading scorer?

It's cute how Girgensons is a measuring stick here. I for one think we should quit the metric system and move towards a girgensonetric system. Say, you have to run a 400 metre lap. Metres? Forget about it. That's 212.76 girgensons. Once you reach 1000 girgensons, that's 1 zemgus. Sounds good to me.

Seriously though, there's dozens of USHL graduates and NHL draftees. Girgensons is just a single data point.

A guy called Jack Eichel scored at a 0.77 ppg pace at his age. Dylan Larkin? 0.36 ppg. Kyle Connor? 0.66 ppg. There's a bunch who scored at a higher pace and never amounted to anything.

Murnieks is going at a 0.60 ppg pace, having played the start of the season on the 4th line. That is a good, solid pace for his first year overseas.

What matters is his continued progression.

His showing at the WJC exceeded expectations and that is a very promising sign. He could be anywhere from a top 5 pick to a late 1st rounder, or even worse if he stagnates completely.

We shall see.

Don't get me wrong, I am not putting much stock in how he compares with Girgensons, just that it is a measuring stick for potential 1st rounder from Latvia in USHL (at least for Latvians who do not follow junior hockey that much and wonder why Girgensons had all the hype at home back then and Mūrnieks not now), although of course conditions are different. Murnieks is in North America for his first year, which was not the case with Girgensons. And of course PPG can be varied and all depends on actual development, team in which you find yourself, role etc. Shouldn't take it all that seriously.

In any case a number of guys played better than their seasons would suggest (not having seen the actual games though), including Feldbergs and Mateiko. We will see.

I have literally no interest in Prince George. You said it, i Googled it up. Because i mean i had to? I was looking up an insignificant franchise that lacks history or a reputation worth speaking of. Therefore it wasn't that hard to make a point out how much of a hypocrite you are. You're cheering for a loser franchise and somehow sticking it to Sweden that have won a whole lot more than you. I think it's weird that you can't comprehend that. It's even worse that you can barely come up with solid arguments in your own mother tongue.
