Keep in mind I said closer not close lol

lol I was never close to the WJC, I said I was closer than him. Meaning I played for Portland. Are you really gonna talk down to someone who would get cut from the WJC Canada team though? That’s a bold choice.
I would have just kept this to myself personally

OilersFanatics505,

I'm Canadian myself, but trust me. Lots of people hate the way Canadian teams, players or media hype up their junior or NHL or global tournament team to the heavens like the entire country lives or dies by the sword that match.

If you want to see the most biased sports coverage on Earth, watch any TSN or Sportsnet telecast and it's hockey hockey hockey. And pro Canadian team all the time. Even for national broadcasts (which youd think would be balanced coverage), they only focus on the Canadian NHL teams. You could have some classic rivalry games on like NYR vs NYI, or Chicago vs Detroit etc..... but they'd rather focus on Ottawa Senators playing Nashville. It's a weird dynamic.

Turn on Sportsdesk or Sportscentral. You got some great games on that night like Knicks vs Celtics, big golf tournament going on, big trade in the MLB.... what is the first highlight of the night? Winnipeg Jets vs Columbus Blue Jackets.

BUT, you got to kind of understand that Canadian success in sports is heavily skewed to hockey, curling, a handful of pro basketball or baseball players, and noname people who win Olympic medals here or there. It's so lean, the male player of the year was a hammer throw guy nobody has heard of.

Other countries (especially the US), has so many more sports people follow, are competitive in tons of sports, and have tons of top players. So there's more sports action to follow.

So a lot of people and media cling onto hockey as the main sport were always competitive in. And when we lose, some people go ape shit sore loser because the better other players and countries get, the closer we are to losing being a dominant force. People can understand team Canada cant win 100% of the time, but they still want majority wins. They dont want it to drop to like 25% success rate because it looks bad. And the last thing they want is USA winning tons of global hockey tournaments or NHL spots because it'll become another case of Americans beat Canadians again.

Lol kudos to you for outing yourself like that. People here fail to understand playing in the WHL and USHL is a higher level than 99.9% of the posters here. They can hide behind their screens talking s*** but all the while knowing the furthest they've ever gotten was AA hockey at age 13.

The Czechs deserve a lot of credit. They’ve made great strides in their U20 team the last few years. They came out and were genuinely a better team in the first period and for much of the second until Canada stormed with a fury up through the third until they tied it. Beating Canada in the knockout round in back to back years is a big deal. Thats hard to do no matter what you say about Canada’s errors. Kids like Stancl and Hradek look much better than their draft position.

I think when Canada enters the tournament every single year as the projected favourite, with a trophy cupboard filled to the brim with past success and the TSN pundits pumping the team's tires all year leading up to it, anything short of gold is seen as a failure to the fans that get suckered in by the hype.

And since this tourney's bigger in Canada than it is anywhere else, there are more fans and therefore louder fan reactions after every loss.

Comes with the territory of being the so-called "top dogs".

I blame Craig Button and Bobby McKenzie

Don is it you? Well but then you consequently should remove all europeans from the NHL, guess that would improve the on ice product a lot and you finally get back your game where goons beat themselves to dementia. Yes get rid of the soft euros we would like to see them play on our prime time lol

The NHL is the NHL. The best play in the NHL. If you make the NHL regardless of where you are born then so be it. But we don't need to train Europeans in our own junior leagues and take away spots from Canadians. And then people drag their heels and can't comprehend how another country beats us.

What I will write will get me a warning but I will write as much a I could without getting censured. The problem is typical canadian politics. It reflects the problem this country have at high level. What happen in Hockey Canada is the logical mirror of the political scene. In Canada, we put people in power for the wrong reasons, the competence is not the first criteria.

The US cares about football, basketball, baseball, golf, NASCAR and a little bit of hockey.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about.

We get all the US sports shows and radio shows up here, so it’s not like we’re unfamiliar with what happens south of the border.

The big difference between Canada and the US is that they only really care about international competition about once every 2 years for the Olympics and for the Ryder Cup.

One could also argue that imports make the CHL more competitive. Imports elevate the level of play, which, in turn, benefits the development of Canadian players. The league is less watered down with imports playing.

And imports aren't taking roster spots away from talented Canadians. It's the worst players on the roster who are cut when teams add imports.

I'm not Canadian but I think we can all agree that Czechia was ready to play from the get go while Canada was not. Also, Canada was lacking discipline all tournament long and I think their special teams were underwhelming, too. All signs pointing towards a poorly coached team so I think you have to be allowed to say the truth.

I'm with you re the whining about the refs though. I thought they did an okayish job and even if you disagree with that assessment they weren't the reason why Canada lost. Not the refs fault Canada only got going midway through an elimination game. Yet still Canadians were filling page after page bitching because of refing. Certainly too much for my liking even though it was kinda funny.
Tbh, I was one bitching about the kneeing penalties but I wasn't saying it was the reason we lost. I still believe both calls weren't kneeing penalties when watched in review..In-game at full speed I totally get it and thought they were fine calls to be made myself. I was defending the TSN panels opinion which also disagreed but also had the benefit to watch it 100x in slo-mo.

The two major blunders for TC was the knee with 5 mins left when we had just tied it and were taking over - a simple stick check would've been fine! and the coaching decision to review the goal that was so obvious to not call and not likely get penalized. Awful decision.

This was hilarious.
Just so you know. I have USA as big favs in semis.
I know. And I felt the great warm embrace of the comfort of the familiar when I saw your posts on this..😀.

Of course, the truth is that I completely agree with your prediction. I think we are capable of an upset, but the most likely outcome going around in my head is something like 1-4.

I loved your earlier post. What made me laugh is that I said it was 50-50 and that came across as overly optimistic.

Things going for us.. I like the lines.. I like the d and I love the goalie.

The stupid penalties are still a problem and I'm not sure how many free pps we can give the state's. However.. our pk should be really dialed in given how many penalties we've taken.lol

However.. we can beat them 4-3 but they can beat us 5-0. I'm aware of who they are and how good they've looked.

Plus. I hear they practice before games which could be an advantage too.lmao

Fwiw.. I'd be fine if there was a full euro ban in any major north american League. They all stay at home and don't come over till they can make AHL or NHL.

However. I don't think the poster realizes that would make a nation like the Czechs stronger and not weaker. And I'm not sure it'd be make the CHL better.

But sure. Let's listen to cherry and get rid of all those euros.lol

For starters the combined amount of fans you have doesn't add up to Canada's here.

But bitch moan and cry when you lose is guaranteed from every fan base here. don't even bother trying to bullshit me on this, I know better.
If you knew better you wouldn’t cry so damn much.

I played for maybe 45 years and never made it above houseleague and men's league. I've been lucky enough to play some shinny with actual hockey players and it's jaw dropping just how much better these people are at the game. The tiers of talent in this sport are unbelievable.
