With their inability so far to generate much of anything in the way of dangerous opportunities Canada has to at least stay out of the penalty box this game to give themselves a fighting chance.

Coming in...

Czechs have won 2 of the last 3 matchups.

Opener in round robin 2 years ago
Lost gold match in OT
Eliminated Canada in quarter last year

Canada is the fav 💯. In Ottawa too.

I'm expecting a very close game while most are expecting a blowout.

Time will tell. I will say it absolutely sucks that we played such a good reound robin and got Canada. Finish top 2 meant no north america until it didn't. That sucks.

I will cheer to the end.

Difficult to defeat Canada playing at home at the knockout stages. Doesn’t matter that much that they played an underwhelming round robin. I’d rate the probability about 65% Canada, 35% Czech Rep. 98% Canada if the Czechs take as stupid penalties as they did against Sweden.

Canada doesn’t play Canadian hockey anymore. They think they have skill, but it’s ineffective, add in the bad coaching and it’s hard to beat good teams.

Czechia takes it.

The past few years have been the best they've iced since the early 2000's, and it's actually great to see. I'm happy to see it, they deserve this long overdue success.

While this is, IMO, the worst Canada team since '98. It's not uncommon for Canada to start off undisciplined and unfocused but they usually got their shit together by now. This team hasn't, and it won't.

3-2 Czechia

This idiot coach has the obvious choice of playing Rehkopf and Martone, two of the highest scoring players in the OHL who are LINEMATES on their team, together, and he refuses to even put them in the same game. Is Dave Cameron a CIA plant?

I didn't realize the Culinary Institute of America had even reached the depths of muddling in international hockey. I'll have to chew this one over.

The way Canada has played this tournament I doubt there are any expectations of a blowout (unless you mean the Czechs win big?).

I will predict 3-2 for Canada. First goal will be critical though, Canada is good defensively and could sit back and defend very well (assuming fewer idiotic penalties) and the Czechs should be able to sit back with a lead and Canada won't generate much.

Unfortunate draw for the Czechs. I actually think they’re legit Gold medal contenders but to get Canada in the quarters after what’s been a very disappointing tournament thus far, is worst case scenario.

I just don’t see Canada losing this game in front of the home crowd. They all know how much backlash there would be. There will be so much desperation on their part.

I’m not sure many players on this Canadian team, or even the coaching staff themselves, can muster up any urgency let alone some desperation.

Didn’t I just read that they’ve basically cancelled all practices and haven’t been on the ice in days?

Something stinks about this team

But has this team shown any ability to harness this and make it work for them like most Canadian teams do/would?

skeptical about that myself, especially with the work shown so far behind the bench.

while most are expecting a blowout.

Define "most" :naughty:

The team that outscored Latvia, Kazakhstan & Germany in the preliminary round by a whopping 2 goals isn't capable of blowing anybody out. Unless Canada figures out how to score and stays out of the box, I'd sooner bet on Czechia running away with this.

But sitting here right now, my gut says Canada just barely pulls this one out 3-2 in OT. But boy it's going to be nerve-wracking for both sides watching this one.

Elimination games are another animal. I just feel like if any country can really rise to the occasion it’s Canada. Historically it’s been that way.
